Exploring Life & Business with Paola Proctor of PMP Music Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paola Proctor.

Hi Paola, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
According to my mother I was singing before I could form proper sentences.

First, performing as a child in church choirs, I discovered an innate talent and passion for music performance. I was so fortunate to be surrounded by world class music teachers and started taking classical singing and cello lessons in 2005.

My family moved around a lot so I was musically inspired from living and traveling in Europe and the Middle East. I had the honor of performing with interantional gropus such as the Doha Community Orchestra for the Prince of Wales, the Youth Orchestra of the Middle East at the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi, and Florida All-State Choir with Gulliver Preparatory Academy.

While attending the University of Miami, Frost School of Music, I performed the National Anthem at collegiate sporting events and for the Miami Marlins. I also also performed at local events such as National Voice Day and The Young Artist Initiative.

Right after undergrad, I soon relocated to Nashville, Tennessee to further my musical endeavors. Within three months, I sold her first copyright to a Fortune 500 company.

Released in spring 2018, Proctor’s single “Tongue Tied” was featured on Lightning 100’s evening show, The 615.

My favorite creative project I have ever worked on was a commercial writing series for Niklaus Children’s Hospital in South Florida. The commercial aired during the Oscars and I will never forget seeing it on TV for the first time.

My latest single, Ecstasy, was released in September of 2024. Since the Pandemic I have leaned more into content creation for the creative freedom while traveling for my current sales position.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Things were really improving leading up the pandemic. My favorite writing project I received was writing a whole branding campaign for a Children’s Hospital in South Florida named Niklaus Children’s Hospital. The TV commerical aired in South Florida Network Television during the Oscars, it was SUCH a proud moment. I also was organizing a Southeast College tour for the fall of 2020 and the end of 2019. Then by March 2020, everything was cancled overnight due to the Covid-19 Panemic.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about PMP Music Group?
I had an internship in Los Angeles, CA the summer of 2015 which taught me so much about music production, licensing, publishing, and post-production. After my internship I realized majority of post-production licensing was a matter of organization and having the proper rights and permission to license pre-cleared music. I figured, as long as I’m organized I can create my own music company and own the rights to all of my recordings which would make licensing a much easier task. I created PMP Music Group which is an all encompassing music production, promotion, licensing, and creative consulting company.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
I wish I undestood the art of networking when I started my own company. There’s an amazing book called “Never Eat Alone,” by Keith Ferrazzi and I learned the importance of providing value before asking people for anything. I unfortunately burned some very impressive bridges because I lacked the proper social skills to create professional relationships. I’ve always had a good work ethic but lacked a lot of social awareness. Through a lot of trial and error, I took up a sales position after the pandemic which taught me a lot about communication skills.
