Life & Work with Olivia Atkinson of Nashville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Atkinson.

Hi Olivia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started taking photos at a very young age, I love people and early on began connecting that with the art of photography. Over the years as I began my business and I learned so much about the technical aspect of photography, but also how to showcase people at their best at that specific point in time. How to pose to be most flattering, bring the most emotion to the moment, and how to help nerves relax and get people excited about whatever we’re taking photos of. It’s an absolute honor to photograph every milestone, and celebrate that milestone with people through photos.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Every road has its rocks, I overcame a lot of shyness as I began my business. I used to be very introverted and timid when Interacting with new people, which can be challenging when you’re trying to direct a photoshoot! The more I worked, the more I began easing up, getting comfortable with talking to people and helping them be comfortable in front of the camera. Now it feels second nature and I absolutely love talking with my clients and hearing their story!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve been a photographer for ten years; I photograph weddings, families, seniors, maternity, and newborns, all stages of life! At the beginning of this year, I began serving my clients more by going full service: offering custom wall art and heirloom albums. I LOVE helping my clients enjoy their photos to the fullest by getting them in print, letting them showcase their family and major life events in beautiful ways in their homes.
I believe print is more important now than ever; in this digital age, photos (and thousands of them) are more accessible than ever. But most of them get doomed to stay on the camera roll, or only make it to the Instagram feed instead of in your hands. The luxury, concierge-style experience I provide my clients takes the decision fatigue out of outfit planning, image selection, and overwhelming process and gets their photos right into their hands and homes. The impact of seeing your family or wedding photos in your home is so powerful, keeping that daily reminder of a beautiful time in your life.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Not luck, but I believe God has a purpose in everything and He orchestrates our lives for our good and His glory! He is the ultimate creator, I’m only a sub-creator, showcasing the beauty of life as best as I can. I know He brings clients to my door on purpose, and I pray over each of my sessions that I can bless them and showcase their love excellently and creatively.
