Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremiah Davis Pka “Poetic Jermz”.
Hi Jeremiah Davis, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Majority of my life, I’ve been in Tennessee. I also had the opportunity to live in Zambia, Africa for a couple of years, and I spent about six weeks there on a short term trip before that, both of which really shaped how I see people and culture.
I grew up in Jackson, Tennessee, and that’s where I really started developing creatively, being drawn to rhythm, sound, and storytelling early on. I played percussion through school, started writing poetry in high school, and eventually began making music in 2015 using GarageBand on my iPhone while in college.
While studying Journalism Creative Media at the University of Memphis, I developed skills in branding, design, photography, and videography that helped me build out my creative identity. Around that time, I started under Contagiously Influential, which already had a faith undertone, but was more about expression and defining what I was doing creatively at the time.
As I grew especially in my faith during college, my perspective started to mature. I came into a real devoted relationship with God my freshman year, and that became a major grounding point in how I see myself and my purpose. It wasn’t just about influence or output anymore, it became about identity, intention, and alignment in what I was creating.
That shift is what eventually led into Poetically Yours, a name coined by my guy Wes that reflected that evolution in a more grounded way. Along the way, I’ve met many amazing people I’ve worked and grown with who have kept me inspired, accountable, and moving forward especially through tougher seasons. They’ve helped me stay committed and turn what I once called dreams into goals I’m actively building.
Now I move as Poetic Jermz, focusing on music and storytelling rooted in authenticity, growth, and connection. I’ve also been able to perform in different spaces, from internationally in Zambia to creative showcases like Bizarre Bazaar, and most recently The Awake Festival in my hometown of Jackson.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Has it been a smooth road? No, not at all. It’s been filled with uncertainty, doubt, moments of loneliness, and times where support felt limited. There were also financial challenges that made it hard at times to follow through on creative ideas the way I wanted to, so I had to learn how to become very resourceful.
But even in the middle of that, I believe God has shown me that I can still be thankful for the fact that I’ve kept my love for this and my drive hasn’t left me. Those seasons didn’t stop me, they just shaped how I build and how I move no
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in music and storytelling that blends sound, visuals, and identity. I don’t just focus on music alone, I care about the full creative expression behind it, from branding to visuals to how everything connects together.
I’m known for being intentional with how I build my work, not just dropping music but creating meaning and direction behind it. Whether it’s through my brand Poetically Yours or my work as Poetic Jermz, people usually connect with the honesty and thought behind what I create.
What I’m most proud of is my growth from starting out making beats on my phone and writing poetry in high school to performing in spaces like Zambia internationally, Bizarre Bazaar, and The Awake Festival back home in Jackson. Seeing that full circle journey means a lot to me.
What sets me apart is that I don’t separate faith, creativity, and identity. For me, it’s all connected. Everything I create comes from a grounded place of purpose, growth, and trying to be real in how I express life and experience.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Some of my favorite apps that help me do my best work are Substack for expression, the bible for inspiration from God, With the Perrys podcast, Youtube for entertainment. There’s a creative blog called indie beginnings that encourages Christian Creatives. That helps a lot. Also, instagram has some gems from some artists I follow.
