Exploring Life & Business with Dr. Audra Lance of Lumara Concierge

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Audra Lance.

Hi Dr. Audra, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Honestly, it started with a dream long before there was ever a business.

Growing up I was the kid playing doctor with my Barbies and stuffed animals. Even then,
there was a part of me that knew helping people was what I was meant to do.

When I moved to Nashville to start my practice, I was turned down by twelve different
banks. At the time, I was nannying on the side while trying to get the practice off the
ground.

One bank finally said yes. One patient trusted me enough to take a chance on me. Looking
back, that’s really how this business was built. One person believing in me, then another, then
another. Every patient who walked through the door gave me the opportunity to keep building,
and over time those small acts of trust became the foundation I needed to create the
business.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No business is built on a smooth road. Every entrepreneur will tell you there are seasons where
you wonder if what you’re building is actually going to work.

In the beginning, there were plenty of slow months. Those were hard because the responsibility
doesn’t turn off when you own the business. You don’t clock out at the end of the day. You’re
thinking about your patients, your team, your finances, your next steps. The business comes
home with you.

One thing I’ve learned is that being a business owner means that you have to be a good kind of
crazy. There are highs that make you feel unstoppable and lows that make you question
everything. At some point, I realized I had to stop fighting the roller coaster and learn how to
enjoy the ride. There were plenty of moments where I didn’t know exactly how things were going
to work out, but building a business means I had to get comfortable making decisions without
always having all the answers.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Lumara we change lives.
Our model is intentionally built to give people something that’s become increasingly rare in
healthcare: time.

We spend time with our patients in the treatment rooms and we don’t rush them, their healing,
or the care we deliver.

People often find their way to us after months, or even years, of searching for answers. They’ve
seen multiple providers, tried different treatments, invested significant time, money, and energy,
and yet they still don’t have a clear understanding of what’s going on or how to move forward.

So we take our time, we listen, and we walk alongside our patients through every stage of their
journey. We earn their trust, and that’s what I’m most proud of.

How do you define success?
In this season of my life, I’m defining success as gratitude.

I’ve reached a point in my career where I feel so at peace getting to do exactly what it is that I
set out to do. For so many years, I worked toward building something that would allow me to
care for people in a meaningful way, and now I get to wake up every day and live that reality.

I truly feel like I’m living out my purpose. With every step forward, every patient who trusts us
with their care, and every life we have the opportunity to impact, this mission I’m on is only
further reassured.

There are still goals I want to accomplish and places I want to grow, but I’ve stopped measuring
success solely by what’s next. Instead, I’ve learned to appreciate what I’ve already been given
the opportunity to do. When I look around at the people we serve, the team we’ve built, and the
work we get to do each day, I feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude.
