Meet Sara Douga of Nashville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Douga.

Hi Sara, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I always say that I was Cajun raised in a cowboy town. I grew up in Southwest Louisiana, and I’ve always known that I would do music. I don’t think it’s something you choose, I think it chooses you. I wrote my first song at 8, and at 35 I’m still writing… it never stopped. I moved to Nashville from Lafayette, Louisiana in 2019 after spending some time going back and forth to write. I was a lucky gal and had my first record on BBC radio 2, thanks to Whispering Bob Harris. I got to play the Opry as my first gig when I moved to town. July 3,2019 I made my guest debut with songwriter hall of famer, Jim Lauderdale. Since then I have released 2 more ep’s and I just released my second full length album, Woman Out of Me. I’ve been lucky to have some great cuts as a songwriter and I love my writing community both here in Nashville and in Austin where I’m spending my summer.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I had some very sweet friends and supporters back home in Louisiana but I had a hard time getting gigs. I am grateful to be where I am now and trying to build my fan base and online community so that I may have more opportunities!!

I’ve been lucky in the ways of wonderful people around the world opening their hearts and ears to my music just because they liked what I was doing long before I had earned or deserved such a chance.

Now I am trying to build from the foundation I have created. And I mean that in so many ways…

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a country artist, songwriter, and producer. I also have a degree in wildlife management and have been a published wildlife biologist in years past.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I got “bit” by an alligator once.
I was tagging together for U.S. Fish and Wildlife service and I grabbed one about 2:30 in the morning and it turned its head and just barely scraped my finger; but man it’s a big deal. You have to go to the hospital get a tetanus shot and loads of antibiotics.. I’m not sure how many people get to say that happened to them and still get to play guitar lol
