Meet Dusty Grimes of Nashville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dusty Grimes.

Dusty, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up in West Tennessee and moved to Atlanta after high school. There I spent over 2 decades building a life and all the joys and trials that come with living through your 20s and 30s. I met the love of my life and got married, bought a house, and truly enjoyed the 22+ years I spent in that city.
In early 2018, I attended an event that featured a fantastic photo booth setup. There was something about the experience – the excitement, the laughter, and the way it brought people together – that immediately captured my attention. At the time, I was working a fairly routine job, but that event sparked something in me. I remember thinking, “One day, I’m going to own a photo booth business”. It wasn’t an overnight journey. It took a while, but I never let go of that goal. In 2021, my husband and I relocated to Nashville, and I finally turned that vision into reality by launching The Photo Machine. Today, I have the privilege of helping people celebrate some of life’s most meaningful moments while creating lasting memories. What started as a simple idea has grown into a business that I truly love, and I’m grateful every day I took the chance to pursue it.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As with any new business, there are always challenges. Learning new jargon…tackling tech issues…networking.
Trying my best to get others in the special event world to take notice. That’s not always easy, to say the least.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I own and operate The Photo Machine, a photo booth entertainment company serving events throughout Tennessee and Kentucky. We offer a variety of photo booth experiences and extensive customization options, allowing each client to create something that feels unique to their event and personal style. Whether it’s a wedding, corporate event, fundraiser, or private celebration, the goal for my team is to provide an experience that is fun, seamless, and memorable for every guest.

What I’m probably most known for is my reliability, prompt communication, and attention to customer service. I believe that old-fashioned courtesy, good manners, and treating people with respect still matter. Those values guide every interaction I have with clients, from the first inquiry to the final event.

What makes me most proud is helping people celebrate life’s important moments and creating keepsakes that allow those memories to last long after the event is over. What sets me apart is that I genuinely care about the client experience. I focus on being responsive, dependable, and easy to work with, while offering a level of personalization that helps every event feel special and one of a kind.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Great question…
I get a lot from ‘The Mindset Mentor’ podcast, as well as speaker and mentor Alan Berg.
