Life & Work with Stan Newton of Nashville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stan Newton.

Hi Stan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My career started in the mid eighties at Vidal Sassoon on South Molton Street, the very heart of Mayfair. It was truly an inspirational time. The 3 year apprenticeship was not easy the Sassoon brand dedicated to the highest standards of education & maintaining the amazing legacy that Vidal created in the 1960’s. A keen attitude was supported by the educators & key stylists & I soon found myself assisting Ray Allington on a variety of photoshoots, celebrity events & even going to celebrities homes. I will always be grateful for the mentorship I received. As a Creative Director I travelled across 5 continents through the 90’s, 2000’s & 2010’s delivering hair education, presenting on stage, creating looks for magazines, commercials & TV. In 2013 I made the most leftfield decision of my career & agreed to a creative role for Wella India owned at the time by Proctor & Gamble. India was the fastest growing market at this time & my role was to support the development of the educators & stylists across the country. During my 3 year contract I worked on a variety of projects including Vogue & a wedding hair shoot utilising Bollywood actresses. Ultimately Bollywood led to Hollywood, I rejoined Sassoon in Santa Monica in 2017 supporting education across North America. This then connected the dots to Nashville educating a group of salons within a city that deeply feeds my love of music. 2020 was probably not the best time to arrive but somehow I was able to get connected to so many fantastic creatives. My dear friend Andrew Clancey & his partner Laura Citron both clothes designers had arrived in 2014 (I believe) opening Any Old Iron fashion store. They certainly have been great connectors for me & I am forever grateful. It’s been an absolute joy building a life in Nashville. Working out of Local Honey has given me the freedom to continue educating as an independent educator whilst maintaining the sense of being a part of something. It’s probably the most important thing to me in my work. To feel connected & a part of something bigger.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The constant challenge will always be time. Creating individual looks for clients is a journey & quality cannot be rushed.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
For the most part I am a hairstylist that specialises in cutting, finishing & styling hair.
My work is definitely founded on classic beauty with a contemporary twist. I genuinely take great pride in maintaining my standard of work everyday. What makes me most proud are the risks I have been willing to take whether it be a look for a photographic shoot or a career decision to turn things on its head & keep life interesting.

What matters most to you? Why?
Personal development is key & beyond that sharing with others. It’s essential to help the next generation find the spark that sets them up for success.
