Today we’d like to introduce you to Bueana Lady Cox.
Hi Bueana Lady, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised on the South Side of Chicago, a city that taught me the value of community, resilience, and supporting the people around you. Growing up, I watched small businesses become the heartbeat of neighborhoods. They weren’t just places to shop or eat; they were gathering spaces that created jobs, celebrated culture, and kept communities connected. That shaped how I see the world and planted the seed for the work I do today.
My journey hasn’t been linear, but every chapter has prepared me for the next. After high school, I stepped away from college to serve with AmeriCorps because I wanted to make a meaningful impact. My first service experience took me to New Orleans, where I worked alongside communities rebuilding after Hurricane Katrina. I later served in the Dallas–Fort Worth area, continuing to support community initiatives and learning how collaboration can transform lives. Those experiences reinforced that real change happens when people invest in one another.
My commitment to service continued when I traveled across the country with Feed My Starving Children. Visiting communities in different states gave me a firsthand look at the unique character of each community while also showing me how connected we all are. Every city has local entrepreneurs, restaurants, artists, and nonprofits working to make their communities stronger. Those experiences inspired me to think beyond helping individual people and to consider how I could help entire local economies thrive.
Like many people, I experienced an unexpected setback when I was laid off. While it was difficult, it became one of the most defining moments of my life. Instead of viewing it as the end of my career, I chose to invest in myself. I returned to school to complete my Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications at Loyola University New Orleans while reflecting on how I could combine my passion for service, storytelling, and community impact into something meaningful.
That reflection became Bee Your Fun Planner.
What began as helping friends and family plan memorable trips has grown into a business with a much bigger purpose. My mission isn’t just to create personalized travel itineraries. It’s to connect people with local communities while helping small businesses and local economies grow. I believe every recommendation has the potential to support a restaurant owner, boutique hotel, tour guide, museum, entertainer, or family-owned shop. When travelers spend intentionally, entire communities benefit.
One of my favorite examples was helping a bride from Chicago plan an intimate micro wedding near Nashville. It wasn’t simply about choosing a beautiful venue. I intentionally curated local vendors, restaurants, accommodations, entertainment, and experiences that reflected the region. Her celebration brought business to multiple Tennessee entrepreneurs while giving her guests an authentic experience they couldn’t have found through a generic travel website. That’s the kind of impact I love creating. I enjoy building bridges between cities, introducing people to places they may never have discovered, and ensuring that tourism dollars stay within local communities whenever possible.
Today, Bee Your Fun Planner has become a platform that celebrates hidden gems, promotes local businesses, and encourages people to experience luxury at every budget. I use digital storytelling, AI-powered tools, and personalized planning to make travel easier while creating opportunities for businesses to reach new audiences. Whether I’m planning a weekend getaway, a corporate retreat, a family reunion, or a destination celebration, my goal is always the same: connect people, create unforgettable experiences, and strengthen the communities that make those experiences possible.
Alongside building my business, I’ve spent more than a decade working in customer success, healthcare, logistics, and SaaS, helping customers solve problems, adopt new technology, and achieve their goals. Those experiences strengthened my communication, relationship-building, project management, and problem-solving skills while reinforcing a simple philosophy: people remember how you make them feel.
Looking back, the common thread throughout my life has always been service. From AmeriCorps and Feed My Starving Children to customer success and entrepreneurship, I’ve always been motivated by creating opportunities for others. Today, that means helping people discover new places while helping local businesses flourish, connecting communities across the country one experience at a time, and proving that travel can create meaningful economic impact far beyond the trip itself.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but every challenge has shaped who I am today.
One of the biggest turning points came when I was laid off. Like many people, I questioned what was next and whether I was on the right path. Instead of allowing that setback to define me, I decided to redefine myself. I returned to school to complete my Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications while simultaneously building Bee Your Fun Planner from the ground up. Balancing coursework, job searching, entrepreneurship, and everyday life required discipline, faith, and a willingness to keep moving even when I couldn’t see the entire path ahead.
Starting a business came with its own challenges. Building trust, growing an audience, learning marketing, understanding SEO, creating a website, developing pricing, and wearing every hat in the business meant there was always something new to learn. There were moments when things didn’t go as planned, when ideas had to be reworked, and when I questioned whether I was making progress. Those experiences taught me that success is rarely about having all the answers. It’s about staying curious, adapting, and continuing to show up.
Another challenge has been learning to embrace a nontraditional career path. My journey has taken me through community service, customer success, healthcare, logistics, business development, entrepreneurship, and now completing my degree. At one point, I worried that my path looked too different. Today, I realize those experiences are exactly what make me unique. Every role taught me something valuable about leadership, communication, problem-solving, and serving others.
Financial uncertainty has also been part of the journey. Returning to school while building a business required sacrifices and careful planning. It forced me to become resourceful, to embrace technology and AI to work more efficiently, and to find creative ways to grow with limited resources. Looking back, those constraints helped me become a stronger entrepreneur and a better problem solver.
Perhaps the biggest lesson has been understanding that setbacks aren’t failures. Being laid off, changing directions, returning to school later in life, and starting over all felt difficult in the moment. But each challenge pushed me closer to work that aligns with my purpose.
Today, when I help a traveler discover a new city, support a local business through Bee Your Fun Planner, or help a customer solve a complex problem in my professional career, I know those experiences are possible because I didn’t give up when the road became difficult. My journey has taught me that resilience isn’t about avoiding obstacles. It’s about choosing to keep growing through them.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Bee Your Fun Planner is more than a travel planning business. It’s a community-driven brand built on the belief that travel and experiences can strengthen local economies, create meaningful connections, and bring joy into people’s lives.
We specialize in creating personalized itineraries for travelers, couples, families, corporate teams, and groups who want more than a generic list of things to do. Every itinerary is thoughtfully curated based on a client’s interests, budget, and travel style while intentionally highlighting locally owned restaurants, attractions, entertainment, hotels, and small businesses that make each destination unique.
What sets Bee Your Fun Planner apart is that we don’t just plan trips. We tell the story of a destination through its people. We believe the best experiences happen when visitors connect with the culture, history, food, and entrepreneurs who call a place home. Whether I’m helping a Chicago couple plan a micro wedding near Nashville, designing a corporate retreat, curating a girls’ getaway, or creating a family vacation, my goal is always to create unforgettable memories while supporting the businesses that keep communities thriving.
I often describe Bee Your Fun Planner as a bridge between travelers and local economies. Every recommendation has the potential to help a neighborhood coffee shop, a family-owned restaurant, a boutique hotel, an artist, a tour guide, or a small business gain new customers. Travel dollars can have a ripple effect, and I’m intentional about directing those dollars toward the communities that make each destination special.
Another thing that makes our brand unique is accessibility. We believe luxury isn’t defined by price. Luxury is about thoughtful planning, personalization, exceptional service, and creating moments that people remember. That’s why our philosophy is “Luxury at Every Budget.” Whether someone is planning a weekend staycation or a once-in-a-lifetime celebration, we want them to feel like they received a premium experience.
Beyond custom itineraries, Bee Your Fun Planner also creates destination guides, event recommendations, travel inspiration, social media content that shines a light on hidden gems, and partnerships with local businesses to help them reach new audiences. We use storytelling, technology, and AI-powered tools to make travel planning easier while keeping the human connection at the center of everything we do.
What I’m most proud of is that Bee Your Fun Planner was built from resilience and purpose. After being laid off, I chose to create something that reflected my values of service, community, and joy. Today, the brand has become a platform that encourages people to explore intentionally, support local businesses, and discover experiences they may never have found otherwise.
More than anything, I want people to know that Bee Your Fun Planner isn’t just about where you go. It’s about how you experience a place, who you support along the way, and the lasting impact your visit can have on the local community. If we can help someone create lifelong memories while helping local businesses grow, then we’ve accomplished exactly what we set out to do.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I’d love readers to know that success doesn’t always happen on the timeline you expect, and that’s okay. Some of the most meaningful opportunities in my life came after setbacks that I never would have chosen. Being laid off, returning to school later in life, and starting a business from scratch all taught me that resilience often opens doors you didn’t know existed.
I also hope people remember that every purchase, every trip, and every recommendation has the power to impact someone’s livelihood. Choosing a locally owned restaurant over a chain, booking with a small business, or attending a community event may seem like a small decision, but those choices help families, create jobs, and strengthen neighborhoods. That’s the heart behind Bee Your Fun Planner.
As the brand continues to grow, my vision extends beyond creating itineraries. I want Bee Your Fun Planner to become a trusted platform that connects travelers with authentic experiences while serving as a champion for local businesses across the country. My goal is to build partnerships with destination marketing organizations, tourism boards, chambers of commerce, convention and visitors bureaus, and entrepreneurs to showcase the people and places that make every community special.
If there’s one thing I hope people take away from my story, it’s this: don’t wait for the perfect time to pursue your purpose. Start where you are, use what you have, and keep moving forward. Sometimes the road that looks like a detour is actually leading you exactly where you’re meant to be.
And if Bee Your Fun Planner inspires someone to explore a new city, celebrate a milestone, support a small business, or simply make more time for joy, then I know we’re making the kind of impact I set out to create.
