Today we’d like to introduce you to Keith Trehy.
Hi Keith, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
When my wife and I graduated from business school we flipped a coin: one of us would get to start an exciting business and the other would go work in the corporate world. I “won”, as it were, and I got to start a franchise of Mad Science. I ran the business under that name for ten years, but the curriculum and scope became restrictive. I wanted to branch out and offer more program themes and structures, so I created Mr Bond Science Guy. We now work with thousands of kids every year and bring science to all corners of the country!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Running a business always comes with challenges! As teachers and performers, the hardest part of our job is actually running the business! Historically our biggest challenge was making time for all of the not-so-fun tasks that have to happen to keep everything else rolling. Fortunately, our team now includes people of many talents, so while some of us are best suited to making science fun, we now have Science Guys who fill those important roles and make it possible for us to be out in schools all day!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
The Science Guys make science fun! We bring hands-on science classes, clubs, camps, shows, and more to kids of all ages around town. With over 25 years of experience, the Science Guys has become a bit of a household name around Nashville. We are so proud that we’ve built that reputation, all by bringing weird and exciting experiments to kids. We always say: there’s no better job than shocking little kids with electricity!
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
My favorite past time is sitting at a coffee shop with the crossword in the mornings, so I love that Nashville has so many great places to choose from. Going every day means I get to know so many great people in my community. I love that Nashville has grown and evolved so much over the last few years. I know that’s not everyone’s favorite aspect, but we all have a lot to learn from new people and their perspectives.
