Today we’d like to introduce you to Traci Baker Jackson.
Hi Traci, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always considered myself an artist first. I earned my Fine Arts degree from the University of Maryland, College Park, where I developed a strong foundation in design, composition, color theory, and visual storytelling. That artistic background gave me the confidence to teach myself graphic design long before online tutorials and AI tools became mainstream. I was constantly creating, learning new software, and finding ways to turn ideas into impactful visuals.
Before becoming an entrepreneur, I worked in the government contracting space. When my contract ended, I expected to transition into another position. Instead, I found myself in a difficult place—many employers felt I was overqualified or that my salary expectations were too high based on my experience. After countless interviews and rejections, I realized I had two choices: keep waiting for someone to give me an opportunity, or create one for myself.
That decision led me to launch TBJ Brand Management Group.
What started as designing logos and websites quickly evolved into a full-service branding and marketing agency. Today, I help entrepreneurs, nonprofits, and established businesses build brands that not only look great but also communicate clearly, attract the right audience, and drive business growth. My work spans branding, website design, content creation, digital marketing, and strategic consulting.
At the same time, I’ve continued to embrace my identity as an artist and content creator. Whether I’m creating digital experiences, producing visual content, or painting on canvas, I approach every project with the same belief: great design should tell a story and inspire action.
Looking back, what felt like a setback—the end of my government contract—became the catalyst for building a business that allows me to combine art, strategy, and entrepreneurship. Today, I’m grateful that I wasn’t hired for another job because it pushed me to create something that has had a far greater impact than I ever imagined.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Absolutely not. Entrepreneurship has been one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done, but it’s also one of the hardest. There’s a misconception that once you start a business and gain a few clients, everything just falls into place. The reality is you’re constantly building, evolving, and reinventing yourself.
As an entrepreneur, you’re wearing multiple hats—CEO, marketer, salesperson, accountant, customer service representative, and creative director—all at the same time. There are seasons when business is booming and seasons when you have to work even harder to generate new opportunities. You never stop learning, networking, or finding ways to stay relevant in an ever-changing market.
One of my biggest challenges has been learning that talent alone isn’t enough. You have to consistently market yourself, build relationships, adapt to new technologies, and continue investing in your own growth. There have been moments of uncertainty, setbacks, and projects that didn’t go as planned, but each one taught me something valuable.
Entrepreneurship is definitely not for the weak. It requires resilience, discipline, faith, and the willingness to keep moving forward even when the outcome isn’t guaranteed. But if you’re passionate about what you do and committed to serving others well, those challenges become part of what shapes your success.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about TBJ Brand Management Group?
TBJ Brand Management Group is a full-service branding and marketing agency built for entrepreneurs, nonprofits, and small to mid-sized businesses that are ready to elevate how they show up in the marketplace.
At the core of what we do is strategy-driven design. We specialize in branding, website development, content creation, and digital marketing—helping businesses move beyond aesthetics and into intentional, results-driven brand experiences. From building custom websites to developing cohesive social media content and launching full rebrands, our focus is always on clarity, consistency, and conversion.
What sets TBJ Brand apart is the foundation it was built on. As a trained visual artist with a Fine Arts degree from the University of Maryland, I approach branding with a deep understanding of composition, storytelling, and visual impact. But beyond design, I also bring real-world business experience from government contracting and entrepreneurship, which allows me to merge creativity with structure and strategy.
We’re not just creating “pretty” brands—we’re building brands that communicate, connect, and convert. Every project is intentional, tailored, and rooted in understanding the client’s voice, audience, and long-term goals.
One of the things I’m most proud of is the transformation we’re able to deliver. Seeing a business go from inconsistent visuals and messaging to a fully aligned, professional brand identity is where the real impact happens. It’s not just about design—it’s about confidence, clarity, and positioning businesses to grow.
What I want people to know most is that TBJ Brand is hands-on, detail-oriented, and deeply invested in the success of every client we work with. We don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach. We build brands that feel authentic, look elevated, and are designed to scale.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
My favorite resource is Canva. I’ll be honest—I used to dislike it because it felt like it made graphic design more accessible to everyone, which at the time I thought diluted the profession. But over time, my perspective shifted completely.
Now I actually love Canva because it enhances my workflow and makes my job more efficient. It allows me to move quickly with client deliverables, create strong visual drafts, and collaborate more effectively with clients who need something they can easily update or manage on their own.
As a designer, I see it as a tool—not a limitation. It doesn’t replace strategy or creativity; it supports it. And when used intentionally, it helps me deliver polished, professional branding much faster.
