Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Johnson.
Hi Matthew, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It all started back in high school. After not making the baseball team. I had a lot of free time, so I started going to the gym. Started running into the same group of people. We started joking around saying we’re on the Grind. We all had different goals but the hard work was what we in common. The season started to change but the Grind Continued. So we called it the GrindSZN (season). Before you know the workers at the gym started putting grind season on the whiteboard as you entered the gym. I knew it had movement and our group had effect on others too. So I decided to throw it on a shirt. At first only a couple of my friends purchased a shirt then a two years later I dropped a new shirt and started building out social media accounts to market the shirts. At this time I had just quit my job to take a were I would’ve more time to focus on making and building out GrindSZN. Over the years throughout high school in college I played around with videography and photography so this came back into play now at the new job. I dropped hoodies that year and it went pretty well. The next year I cooked up some of favorite shirts the Grind Don’t Stop tees. This is when the business started to take off. I was lining up photo shoots and consistently making post. I grow our Instagram account to ten thousand followers. I started go to different and small events around Murfreesboro. Next thing I know I’m asked about do the Music City Fit Expo. Now I have been apart of the expo the last four years and sponsored NPC Natural Titan show.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Some of the struggles along the way have let others help. Something so simple but my business is like my baby and you don’t just let anyone hold them. I have been running all fields of the business so marketing, designing, and content. Without any investment besides from original money to start it’s hard to get photographers and videographers since all the money go back into shirts.
