Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenna Kay.
Hi Jenna , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Music has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I started performing at five years old in musical theater, where I fell in love with being on stage and telling stories through music. Growing up, I spent years training in theater, dance, and vocals, which gave me a strong performance foundation and helped shape me into the artist I am today.
After graduating high school, my family and I took a leap of faith and moved from the St. Louis area to Nashville so I could pursue music full-time. Like a lot of artists, the journey hasn’t always been easy. It’s taken a lot of hard work, resilience, and learning to navigate an industry that constantly challenges you to grow. Every songwriting session, performance, and setback has helped me become a stronger writer, performer, and person.
Today, I’m proud to be creating music that blends pop-rock energy with honest storytelling about heartbreak, self-discovery, and finding confidence in who you are. Along the way, I’ve been honored to become a Top 10 finalist in the NSAI Song Contest, finalists in an American Songwriter song contest, charted #6 on iTunes Pop Album, and see my music connect with listeners around the world. But more than any achievement, what matters most to me is creating songs that remind people they’re not alone. If someone hears one of my songs and feels understood or empowered, then I’m doing exactly what I set out to do.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like most artists, I’ve faced plenty of rejection, uncertainty, and moments where I questioned whether I was on the right path. Moving to Nashville meant leaving behind everything familiar and starting over in one of the most competitive music cities in the world. Building relationships, finding the right collaborators, and earning opportunities all take time, patience, and persistence.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that success in this industry isn’t just about talent, it’s about resilience. There are always going to be setbacks, whether it’s hearing “no,” losing opportunities, or watching plans not work out the way you hoped. I’ve had to learn to adapt, keep writing, keep performing, and trust that every experience is preparing me for what’s next.
I’ve also learned the importance of staying true to who I am. It’s easy to feel pressure to fit into someone else’s idea of what an artist should be, but I’ve found that the more authentic I am in my music and message, the more people genuinely connect with it. Looking back at every obstacle has helped shape both my career and my character, and I wouldn’t trade those lessons because it is what made me a stronger artist and a stronger person.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a pop rock singer/songwriter grinding away in Nashville. I specialize in writing honest, emotionally driven songs that turn life’s hardest moments into something empowering moments. My sound is really a mix of three generations of music. I grew up listening to my dad’s ’80s rock, so those big choruses and high energy performances are in my DNA. I fell in love with the emotional honesty and pop rock edge of the early 2000s, and now I write from the perspective of my own generation. I love creating music that feels nostalgic to older listeners while giving Gen Z stories, emotions, and experiences they can genuinely connect with.
One of the things I’m most proud of is building a career that’s authentic to who I am. And having fans help me chart #6 on iTunes Pop Album Chart, is a milestone that has been incredibly meaningful. But what I’m proudest of is hearing from fans who tell me a song helped them through a difficult season or gave them the confidence to keep going.
I think what sets me apart is that I’m not trying to fit into a mold. I put the work in breaking them. I take the cute and fragile sides of me and power it with edge, wit, and mixing in the glitter and grit. That’s why you will always see me in my combat style boots, possibly laced with beads and jewels, and that matching over sized bow in my hair. It’s a simple style, not just to represent how I dress but who I am. My “boots and bow” anthem is to remind me that even the hardest times in life can be tied together with bow of hope and purpose. And when life knocks me down, the boots are made for getting back up, taking the next step, and kick out whatever is standing in the way. My music lives somewhere between those two things, vulnerability and strength.
My brand is built around the idea of turning hard things into something beautiful, tying a bow around life’s challenges and moving forward with strength. That message carries through everything I do, from my songwriting to my live performances. I bring a theatrical background to the stage, so I focus on creating performances that are just as emotionally engaging as the songs themselves. At the end of the day, I want people to connect with me not just because they like the music, or for the boots and bows, but because they see a piece of their own story in it.
What are your plans for the future?
I’m really excited about this next chapter of my career. Right now, my focus is on continuing to grow as both a songwriter and performer while expanding my audience. I’m working on writing the strongest music I’ve ever created, playing a ton more shows across the country, and building lasting relationships with fans who connect with what I’m doing.
One of my biggest goals is to continue touring, collaborate with more incredible songwriters and producers, and keep creating music that makes people feel seen and empowered. I’m also excited to keep developing my brand in a way that goes beyond the music, creating an experience and a community where people feel like they belong.
Longterm, I’d love to perform on some of the biggest stages in the world and earn opportunities that allow my music to reach an even wider audience. But no matter how much things grow, I want to stay grounded in why I started. By telling honest stories, encouraging people to embrace who they are, and proving that some of the most beautiful things can come from life’s hardest moments. I think the best is still ahead, and that’s what motivates me every day.
