Meet Connor McMurry of Nashville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Connor McMurry.

Hi Connor, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born and raised in a small town called Camden, AR. I moved to Nashville when I was 19 to pursue music and content creation. I studied film back in Arkansas, which landed me an internship to travel to Nashville as a videographer for a documentary. On this trip I connected with some people in the music industry who eventually hooked me up with a place to stay. I moved to Nashville not knowing anyone. I would go to coffee shops, the park, and shows and just talk to people and try to make friends. After working at a coffee shop for the first 10 months of living here, I started making content full time. I would make videos for small businesses and artists, as well as my own comedy videos. I now help manage a coffee shop on music row, make comedy videos for myself, and am currently working on my first self produced album.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Growing up, I’ve always known I’ve wanted to be an artist. Moving to Nashville to pursue it has been the most challenging, yet formative things I’ve ever done. After being here for 4 years, I’ve met so many people who have taught me so much and have pushed me to grow and be better. I have to say the hardest thing about being an artist in Nashville is falling into comparison. It’s so easy to compare where I am to where others are and questioning if I have what it takes to make it. This scared me at the beginning, but I have come to the conclusion that it isn’t necessarily confidence that keeps me showing up, it’s the love I have for the process and the gift that music is in my life. I love it and I will do it regardless if I ever find success. I hope that everyone finds there version of that.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an artist first and foremost. I am a pop/singer songwriter producer. I am a content creator. The thing I am most proud of is my song “Wherever You Are” from my upcoming album “World of Lovers.” It is out now!

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Quitting my job to become a full time creative was probably the biggest risk I’ve made in my career. Though I am not doing creative work full time at the moment, I embrace the season I am in, and the ebs and flows of what it looks like to pursue artistry in any field. Letting go of the ego is the biggest step you can make in becoming all that you can be as an artist.
