Meet Allisha Gayapersad Chetty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allisha Gayapersad Chetty.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey in media began in 2017 when I joined Hindvani Community Radio as a radio news reporter and anchor. It was there that I built a strong foundation in journalism—researching, writing, editing, and presenting news while learning the importance of serving and connecting with the community. From there, I transitioned into television, taking on roles as a presenter, producer, and production coordinator, which allowed me to develop both my on-screen presence and behind-the-scenes production expertise. As my career evolved, I expanded into leadership, digital innovation, and media strategy. I’ve had the opportunity to manage news and production teams, implement AI-driven solutions, lead national campaigns, and oversee marketing and media operations. Today, I serve as the Head of Media and Marketing at Mobile Media, where I combine my passion for storytelling with technology, strategy, and business development to create meaningful impact. Being recognised as the Forty Under 40 Global Journalism Winner in 2025 has been a proud milestone, but I believe my journey is still ongoing.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like many people in the media industry, I’ve had to work my way up, often taking on multiple roles at once to gain experience and grow my skills. The industry is highly competitive, and there were times when opportunities were limited, contracts ended, or I had to step outside my comfort zone to keep progressing.

One of my biggest challenges was transitioning from being an on-air broadcaster to taking on leadership, production, marketing, and technology-focused roles. Each transition required me to learn new skills, adapt quickly, and prove myself in unfamiliar environments. Rather than seeing those challenges as setbacks, I viewed them as opportunities to grow.

Those experiences have made me more resilient, adaptable, and solution-oriented. They’ve taught me that success isn’t about having a perfect journey—it’s about being willing to keep learning, embrace change, and persevere even when the path isn’t easy.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a media executive with experience spanning broadcast journalism, television presenting, production management, digital marketing, AI integration, and media strategy. Throughout my career, I’ve worked across radio, television, and digital platforms, giving me a well-rounded understanding of how to create compelling content while also leading teams and driving business growth.

I specialize in combining storytelling with innovation. Whether it’s producing television content, managing large-scale media campaigns, implementing AI-driven solutions, or developing digital communication strategies, I’m passionate about finding creative ways to connect with audiences and deliver measurable results.

I’m probably best known for my versatility. I’ve successfully transitioned from being a radio news anchor to a television presenter, producer, and now a Head of Media and Marketing. That journey has allowed me to understand every stage of the media process—from creating content to leading strategy and operations.

What I’m most proud of is being recognised as the Forty Under 40 Global Journalism Winner in 2025, but beyond the award, I’m proud of the impact I’ve made by mentoring teams, embracing innovation, and continually pushing myself to grow. What sets me apart is my ability to bridge the gap between traditional media and emerging technologies. I don’t just tell stories—I build strategies, lead people, and leverage technology to create meaningful, future-focused solutions.

Any big plans?
Looking ahead, I see my career becoming more anchored in leadership, strategy, and storytelling at scale. Having started as a radio news anchor and later moving into television presenting, I’ve always been driven by the power of communication and how it shapes public understanding. Winning the 40 Under 40 award and now serving as Head of Media and Marketing has really shifted my focus toward building impactful media ecosystems rather than only being in front of the camera.

In the future, I’m excited about expanding into senior production and executive media roles where I can merge creativity with strategy—leading content teams, developing strong multimedia platforms, and mentoring upcoming presenters and journalists. I’m also exploring opportunities in digital innovation and AI-driven media, especially how storytelling is evolving across platforms. Ultimately, I want to keep growing into roles where I’m not just telling stories, but shaping how stories are told and distributed on a larger, more influential scale.
