Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Himes.
Hi Daniel, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born and raised in Nashville TN and I’m a 39 year old musician, booking manager, and local music enthusiast. I started playing and writing music when I was 14 years old and have not slowed down yet. I’m a part of the local music scene here in Nashville and currently a part of 2 different bands. One in which I play drums and another as the frontman/ lead vocalist. I play all original music, so I’m not on Broadway every night playing cover songs like most people who have recently moved here. I also book several local artists regularly and have a reputation for putting together very exciting shows at numerous venues around Nashville. The local music community here in Nashville is a very special thing and it means the world to me, as well as many others.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being a local musician is never going to be a smooth road. It’s constantly a grind, and you have to work very hard day in and day out. There’s not much money in doing what I do, but that’s not what’s important to me and absolutely not the reason I’m still doing it today. With Nashville growing at the speed it is, it’s even harder than ever. So many people move here thinking it’s going to be easy and that they are going to make it big. But, the truth is…these musicians could move anywhere (Chicago, Atlanta, L.A., Austin, etc…) and still have the same chance that they would in Nashville. Making it in the music industry is not about location. It’s all about who you know and how hard you’re willing to work..
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Honestly, I haven’t had the best of luck with either one, but I don’t give up and I make sure to do the best that I can and to stay true to myself no matter how hard things may get
