Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly McGahee.
Hi Kelly, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
The Flower House was imagined years ago when I was working in the event industry, but saw a need for more face-to-face time with clients. Weddings, specifically, are one of the most special events in a client’s life, so I wanted to get to know my clients on a personal level, and erase the overwhelmingly transactional feel from the experience. It was important to me that I had the opportunity to get to know all of my clients, no matter the event, so they are sure their event is as special and personal to me as it is to them.
This idea for The Flower House became a reality in the fall of 2023. Originally, all the flower design took place in my house, with my dining room table serving as the workspace, my living room serving as flower storage, and my basement serving as inventory storage. Thus, the name The Flower House came to be. The business quickly outgrew my house and has moved into a warehouse workspace, but the name remains.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road, but I am grateful for the set-backs that led to where I am now. It all led to the business being thoughtful, solo-owned, and full of the best team of freelancers.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am most proud of how we all connect with our clients. My freelance team and I have a strong passion to connect with each person we work with, and make sure we are providing them with the most thoughtful, specialized service we can provide. I wouldn’t say there’s anything we necessarily “specialize” in, but I am very proud that brides and other clients will send us a photo or an idea of something specific they want to see in their event, and we are able to create exactly that, every time.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I am most proud of the team at The Flower House. Once this business became solo-owned, I knew there was NO way I’d be able to do this alone. I have been so blessed with the most wonderful group of people who not only stepped in to help when I needed it most, but have joined the team and taken the lead in so many ways. Each one has experience, specialties, creativity, and a love for flowers and events. Not only is each client’s day important to me, but it is genuinely important to each member of this team.
They are the bread and butter of this business, and are the only reason we are able to thrive and continue growing for our clients. They are there to brainstorm creative ways to make the day more special, design the flowers from start to finish, set-up and tear-down events, and so, so much more. You may not see all of them on an event day, but it takes each and every one of them to help us get there.
