Sarah Nicole, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey definitely wasn’t a straight line. By day, I work full-time as a chemist and for years creating travel content was just something I enjoyed doing on the side. As someone who lives in East Tennessee, I was always exploring the Smoky Mountains and sharing places I loved with friends and family. Eventually I started posting those adventures on TikTok, never expecting it to turn into a business.
As my audience grew, I noticed a pattern. People weren’t just asking for restaurant recommendations or the best hikes, they wanted help planning their entire trips. I found myself answering the same questions over and over, so I decided to create digital travel guides and eventually started offering custom vacation itineraries. That’s when My Macroscopic Life really began to evolve from a hobby into a business.
Today, I create travel content across multiple social media platforms, write destination guides, and build personalized itineraries for families, couples, and groups visiting the Smokies and other destinations. My goal has always been to make travel feel less overwhelming and help people spend less time stressing over the details and more time making memories.
It’s definitely been a balancing act building a business while working full-time, but it’s also been incredibly rewarding. Some of my favorite moments are hearing from families after their trips and learning that something I recommended became the highlight of their vacation. Knowing I’ve played a small part in creating those memories is what keeps me excited to keep growing My Macroscopic Life.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. The biggest challenge has been balancing everything while working a full-time career. Building My Macroscopic Life has meant filming videos after work, spending evenings and weekends creating itineraries, answering messages, editing content, and constantly learning new skills. There have been plenty of late nights and early mornings.
Another challenge has been figuring things out as I go. I didn’t have a background in running a business, marketing, or creating content professionally. Everything, from building a website and designing travel guides to understanding SEO and working with brands, has been a learning experience. There have been times when something didn’t perform the way I hoped or I questioned whether I was spending my time on the right things, but every setback has taught me something.
One thing I’ve learned is that growth rarely happens overnight. Social media can make it seem like success happens instantly, but behind every video are hours of research, filming, editing, and responding to people who trust me with their vacation plans. Staying consistent, even when results weren’t immediate, has probably been the biggest reason I’ve made it this far.
Looking back, I’m actually grateful it wasn’t easy because every challenge forced me to improve. I’m still learning every day, and I think that’s part of what makes running a small business so rewarding.

My Macroscopic Life is a travel resource dedicated to helping people plan memorable, stress-free vacations. While I share travel inspiration from a variety of destinations, I’m especially known for my Smoky Mountains content. As a local, I enjoy sharing both the well known attractions and the lesser known places that make this area so special.
What started with short travel videos has grown into so much more. Today I create destination guides, personalized vacation itineraries, and practical travel resources designed to save people time and help them feel confident before they even leave home. Whether someone is visiting for a weekend or planning a week-long family vacation, I want them to spend less time searching through dozens of websites and social media posts and more time enjoying their trip.
I think what sets My Macroscopic Life apart is that my recommendations come from personal experience. I visit the places I recommend, keep up with what’s changing, and genuinely enjoy helping people discover destinations beyond the typical tourist checklist. My goal isn’t to convince people to spend the most money, it’s to help them make the most of their time.
The part I’m most proud of isn’t a certain follower count or viral video. It’s the messages I receive from people who tell me their vacation was less stressful because of one of my guides or that a place I recommended ended up being their favorite part of the trip. Knowing I’ve helped create memories for families, couples, and friends is what makes this business so meaningful to me, and it’s what motivates me to keep growing My Macroscopic Life.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I don’t think I can point to one single mentor because so much of this journey has been self taught, but I’ve definitely been fortunate to have people who believed in me along the way.
My husband, Logan, has been my biggest supporter from the beginning. Building a business while working full-time means a lot of evenings, weekends, and last-minute trips to film content, and he’s always encouraged me to keep going, even when I questioned whether it would ever become more than a hobby.
I’m also incredibly thankful for the community that’s grown around My Macroscopic Life. Every person who watches a video, shares a recommendation, books an itinerary, purchases one of my travel guides, or simply sends a message saying I helped make their vacation better has played a role in where I am today. Their trust means everything to me, and it’s something I never take for granted.
I’ve also met so many wonderful local business owners and tourism professionals who are passionate about our area and genuinely want visitors to have a great experience. Collaborating with them and learning from their perspectives has helped me become a better resource for the people who follow my work.
At the end of the day, My Macroscopic Life wouldn’t exist without the support of so many people who chose to believe in what I was building, and I’m incredibly grateful for that.
