Today we’d like to introduce you to Chandler Grammer.
Hi Chandler, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Gears, inc. formed in early 2014 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, while founding members Chandler Grammer and Christian Crew were still in high school together. Bonding over a shared music taste and interest in writing, recording, and performing their own songs, the duo began learning to play some of their favorites songs together while slowly working on their own material. Over time, the group recruited various members to augment their sound live and began to perform various gigs at coffee shops, bars, and house parties in and around Tuscaloosa up until 2020, when the founding duo moved the operation to Nashville, Tennessee.
Chandler and Christian both attended The Blackbird Academy to further develop their knowledge and skills in audio engineering, completing the program and meeting Andrew Rose (the band’s keys player) by the end of 2020. They slowly worked their way into the Nashville music scene, honing their songs and performing capabilities over the next couple of years. While out performing at a local restaurant and bar the band met Jordan “Kid Brother” Kaye, who was currently enlisted as the bassist of another local band. He was soon drafted into the ranks of Gears, inc., and with his joining, the band’s lineup was complete.
Gears, inc. released their first LP, ‘Atlas’, in January of 2024 which was performed and recorded entirely by Chandler and Christian. Andrew and Jordan’s recorded debut with the band came later that year on the band’s second LP, ‘Gears’, which was the band’s first project to be recorded in a professional studio (Blackbird Studios, here in Nashville).
The band has continued to be a presence in the live scene in and around Nashville, performing in various bars, clubs, venues, and house shows while further developing their songs, chemistry, and live sound together.
Recently, on July 4, 2026, the band released their third LP, ‘Spiral’, (also recorded at Blackbird Studios), and are preparing for their album release show at The Underdog in Nashville on July 19.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As with any independent band, the main obstacle we have faced has been that of a job/music balance. As four adults with four distinct and independent schedules, balancing the time between our sperate jobs, personal lives, free time, and band commitments has been the biggest obstacle.
We have been very lucky though to have solidified a lineup of four committed and passionate friends and musicians who never truly struggle to find the time to further the band’s progress together. The various ‘sacrifices’ required of members of an indie band never really feel like sacrifices to us as we always have a blast getting together to work on music.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Gears, inc. specializes in blending the styles of four musicians with distinct styles and tastes into one neat package. We play a wide array of music, covering a range of genres and pulling from a diverse list of influences. Every member of the band has a very different musical background and we find great joy in fitting all of our interests together under the banner of Gears, inc.
I’m most proud of the quality of work we are able to produce while having the fun that we have together while creating it. We work hard, practice hard, and study hard, but still maintain that working on music together is each of our favorite activities. The camaraderie that we have been able to build together is not only something we cherish, but also something that directly feeds the quality of both our recorded work and live performances.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
As a band we wear most everything about us on our sleeve so we don’t leave much as a surprise to those who know us. To listeners of the band who don’t know us personally I think it might come as a surprise that the four of us are all genuinely best friends, which I think comes through, specifically in our live performances. We aren’t four guys who come together as hired guns to read charts in the studio or fulfill contractual agreements with gigs, but rather a tight-knit quartet who are more akin to siblings than they are a sterile conglomeration of random musicians.
