Today we’d like to introduce you to Crow Johns.
Hi Crow, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Spooky has over 20 years of experience in the entertainment industry, and I (Crow) took fire eating lessons from her in mid-late 2019 and over time learned several other stunts from her. By 2020 we started living together, started building our act and debuted ourselves as Spooky Crow Sideshow that summer. We’ve since developed a large repertoire of stunts we have developed on our own, as well as with other sideshow performers.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not. One of the biggest challenges we’ve faced is getting ourselves out there, especially in a world recovering from the pandemic. Sideshow is a very niche form of entertainment, it has historic and cultural roots, but there are not many who know about it and fewer who perform the stunts, it has never been a prominent form of entertainment in the public eye.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a sideshow duo located in Chattanooga, TN that performs in the surrounding areas and abroad. We are Chattanooga’s only sideshow couple, home of the area’s only sword swallower (at least until you get down towards Atlanta), and have a variety of traditional acts, rare feats, and signature stunts you won’t see anywhere else in the world.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
For myself (Crow), it would have to be the time I got to see Ringling Bros-Barnum and Bailey. I wouldn’t be who I am if I hadn’t seen the greatest show on earth.
for Spooky, it’s really getting to grow up in an area with amazing arts exposure and getting to see huge stage shows as a kid like, Bette Middler.
