Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Culver.
Hi Anthony, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I grew up in small farm towns in Massachusetts and Maine, where hard work and community were part of everyday life. Music was always around me, but I didn’t come from a family with industry connections — everything I’ve built has come from showing up, learning the craft, and staying persistent.
I started performing young, and over the years I balanced music with full‑time work, leadership roles, and real‑life responsibilities. Eventually I moved to New York, and later to Nashville in 2010, to pursue music seriously. Nashville taught me a lot — not just about songwriting and performance, but about resilience. I’ve dealt with setbacks, unreliable collaborators, financial challenges, and even major health issues, but each one pushed me to become more independent and intentional about my career.
Today I perform 3-5 shows a week, write and record under the name AK Cody, and I’ve built a reputation for authenticity, storytelling, and connecting with audiences. My journey hasn’t been easy, but it’s real — and that’s what drives my music. I’m focused now on releasing a full album, expanding my live shows, and continuing to grow as an artist who brings honesty, grit, and heart to everything I do.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
A few years ago, my life changed in a single moment. I had always been the kind of person who pushed through pain, who kept working, kept performing, kept showing up. But one day, my body made a decision for me.
But that moment became a turning point. It stripped away everything that didn’t matter and forced me to rebuild with intention. It changed the way I write, the way I perform, the way I show up in the world. It gave my music a deeper purpose — because now I’m not just singing songs, I’m telling the truth about survival, resilience, and second chances. My heart attack didn’t end my story. It rewrote it. And every time I step on stage, every time I create something new, I’m reminded that I’m still here — and that’s something I don’t take lightly.
