Hi Jasmine, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Before JASPER was a company, it was a dream. Honestly, hundreds of them.
Jed and I have been partners in life for over twenty years, and parents to four awesome kids.
It all started with us. Two people, all in, who believed the life we were building together was worth fighting for. And despite a long and sometimes difficult journey, we set out to build this vision together: not only to build and transform houses, but to create homes in the truest sense.
We started JASPER because we know what it feels like to need someone you can trust with something that truly matters. There have been times we didn’t have that support ourselves, and we know what it’s like when someone comes along and opens a door you didn’t know existed. We wanted to be that for other families.
Jed and I bring different perspectives and expertise to this work. He started in construction at nineteen, as an apprentice on a 23,000-square-foot custom estate in Connecticut, then spent decades on luxury homes, historic restorations, and commercial projects. His standard never lowered. He believes details matter, craftsmanship isn’t negotiable, and the relationships built along the way are everything. I came at it as a mother with a finance and operations background, and as someone who had lived through countless renovations, first as a child, then as an adult with a family of my own. I had to ask the question most builders skip. What does this actually feel like for the families enduring the process?
Then we started asking a harder one together. Why does building or renovating a home have to be so difficult?
Does it?
JASPER was born from that question. In 2020, we built the company we wished had existed when we needed it. Not just to build beautiful homes, but to make the process feel as intentional as the beautiful result.
Years in, I still feel humbled and honored every time a family chooses us to build or transform their home.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Has the ride been smooth? No. We launched JASPER in March of 2020.
If you remember what was happening that month, you already understand. It was do or die from day one. We had no income coming in for our family of six. We were in the middle of renovating our own home, living in a construction site. Then the world shut down. Almost overnight, all four of our kids were home and needing to be schooled. I was in my final semester of business school and Jed was scrambling to set up the business as our timeline got unexpectedly expedited.
Strangely, it felt like the perfect place to start a company. Because there was nowhere to go but up.
First, the challenges were the ones every new company faces. Figuring out project management. Building a pricing structure. Creating a repeatable process and figuring out systems for efficiency. Earning the trust of trade partners and learning to work with them well. The everyday work of getting a business to stand on its own.
Then it became even more fun and interesting. In 2022 and 2023, we were named the preferred contractor for the Four Seasons private residences. That meant navigating a blend of commercial and residential construction inside a building with strict restrictions and requirements. We were also working with owners and designers from out of state, usually over video, which is no small thing when you’re trying to talk through a wall that’s out of level or the detail on a wallpaper install. We finished the penthouse renovation in 2024 with clients who were thrilled, and that work proved to us that we could do well what we set out to.
Since then, we’ve kept building custom luxury homes and completed dozens of complex renovations across Nashville’s most discerning neighborhoods, and we’ve built a strong reputation in that niche. That market was in demand, yet it’s gotten crowded over the last few years, so setting ourselves apart has become one of our biggest priorities. What keeps us at the forefront isn’t a trend or a tactic. It’s staying true to our core values, our vision, and our standard of excellence. That’s the foundation of it all, and that won’t ever change.
The resilience to get through all of it didn’t show up in 2020. It was built long before, over years of hard seasons that taught us how to hold steady and keep moving when everything felt uncertain. And thank goodness we have it, because the years since haven’t let up either. They’ve also brought some of the most incredible accomplishments of our lives.
