Today we’d like to introduce you to Breanna Faith.
Hi Breanna, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I got started on the journey of music at a very young age. Whatever country song my mom had playing in the car when I was 2 years old- I was singing along. Kenny Chesney, Blake Shelton, and Rascal Flatts were my favorites! Then when Hannah Montana premiered, when I was around 5-6 years old, I told my parents I wanted to be a performer just like Hannah with the sparkly outfits, the guitars, the fans, the songs, all of it! My parents said I had to pick up an instrument first, so I started taking guitar lessons when I was 8 years old. When I finally knew enough guitar chords, I was given the opportunity to play at Church services, which I continued to do throughout the years to follow. Finally, when I was 12 years old, I got into professional vocal lessons with a coach who booked gigs for her students. It gave us the opportunities to really perform live for crowds all over Indianapolis.
Once I realized how much I loved the stage, I wanted to take the next step and right my own music. I wrote my first song, “Atmosphere” when I was 13 and recorded it in Nashville, TN when I was 14. From then on, I fell in love with songwriting. I could tell my stories, show my true artistry, and even inspire others. My song, “Fireproof” is what I would consider my most inspiring story. During my junior year of high school, I had experienced several epileptic seizures that caused me to be very down on myself. For months I was distraught, until I turned to music. I decided to write a song about how I was feeling and then use it to uplift anyone else who was going through rough times in their lives. To this day, I still use my voice and my platform to spread epilepsy awareness and advocate for it as much as I can.
This journey of performing live shows, writing my own songs, and chasing my dreams has been the center of my life for the past 10-12 years. I’m 24 now, and while it has been challenging at times (especially now as an adult with way too many responsibilities) I would never trade away any of it. Every trip to Nashville for writers rounds, every fan that has talked to me after shows, and every song I write or cover, makes it all 100% worth the journey. There is nothing I love more than sharing the gift of music with the world, so I thank every single family member, friend, fan, follower, and God for allowing me to do so, and I hope I get to continue this journey for the rest of my life.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think the biggest struggle I have faced is the social media aspect. Sometimes it’s hard to gain followers on Instagram and Facebook, and nowadays that’s one of the biggest things taken into consideration in the entertainment industry. I post regularly on both of those platforms, but I struggle to get more than a couple followers at a time, so I keep performing shows, taking requests, and talking to people afterwards to build stronger connections.
I would say the other big struggle I have faced is rejection. A lot of times it can be hard to get shows or bookings. There are tonnnsssss of local artists who perform live music, and we’re all working towards the same goals. However, it is SUCH a rewarding feeling when a person or venue reaches out to me specifically to perform. Whenever I get asked to perform at bars, parties, weddings, wineries, festivals, private events, or whatever it might be, I almost always snatch that opportunity so I can make more connections, build my performance resume, and keep my calendar booked.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Besides music, I am a full time EEG tech at a children’s hospital. I perform tests called EEGs that look for seizure activity in the brain. My fascination with the brain stems from my own personal epilepsy experience, so I decided I wanted a career in which I could give back and help little kids the same way I was treated when I was that age.
Although I spend 4-5 days a week at Riley Children’s Hospital, I still find ways to spend 2-3 days a week on a stage somewhere, living out my dreams the same way I always have. This is what I am probably the most proud of – the fact that I have successfully balanced two careers that I am extremely passionate about. When I was a child, I knew that I wanted to be a performer, and when I was a teenager, I knew that I wanted to be an EEG tech; I am proud to say that I have made both of those dreams become a reality.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
The main resources I have that keep me motivated are honestly just my friends and family. When I need advice or I’m down on my luck, I turn to my parents or close friends. I’m blessed to have lots of friends and family who encourage me, so knowing that I have all that support helps me do my best in life.
Ultimate Guitar Chords & Tabs – main app I use to learn new songs to play
Google Docs – where all my set lists are stored, as well as my original songs (in case I accidentally forget the words)
Disney+ – so I can watch Hannah Montana whenever I want
The default iPhone calendar app – keeps my schedule organized and color coded so I don’t double book anything. And it’s right there in my pocket!
Hinge – to remind me to keep my focus on my careers because men on dating apps can’t even hold a conversation
All this being said, I am open to podcast recommendations
