Today we’d like to introduce you to Mak Ray.
Hi Mak, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey into music wasn’t something that happened overnight, singing and writing poetry as kid and seeing my dad also creative music all sparked my interest until it came to a point where it (my passion for creating) grew out of my life experiences. Music became my way of expressing emotions, asking difficult questions, and making sense of the highs and lows that come with trying to build a meaningful life.
As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized that every challenge I’ve faced has influenced the artist I’m becoming. Whether it’s rebuilding after setbacks, balancing fatherhood with chasing big dreams, or simply refusing to give up when life doesn’t go according to plan, those experiences have shaped both my perspective and my sound. I don’t create music just to entertain people, I create it to connect with them, sometimes I see myself as the voice for the voiceless on certain songs. I want listeners to know they’re not alone in whatever they’re going through.
Today, I create under the name MAK RAY, and my focus is on making music that’s honest, intentional, and timeless. Every song is another opportunity to tell a story, creative vibes based on the moment or life reflections, inspire someone to keep pushing forward, or encourage people to embrace who they are. I’m still growing as both an artist and a person, and I think that’s what makes this journey exciting. I’m not chasing perfection, I’m committed to becoming the best version of myself and letting that evolution be reflected in my music.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road is never smooth, especially when the dream is larger than the outcome. Even though I’ve taken a path that most would label as the “road less traveled” the relationships and bonds that I’ve established overtime are deeply cherished. For me, the main struggle has always been getting more ears to listen because I’m not a marketing guy, I just want to make the art. I’m not sure of the best tactics but I know when speaking to someone face to face, I can get them to check things out. The challenge is when its on a larger scale and trying to get the music to the masses, but now part of that comes from me disconnecting from social media a lot, and I mean to the point extent of deactivating everything. I just don’t post enough content due to the love-hate relationship with social media

To keep it short, in my professional life, outside of music, I work in healthcare IT as a Business Analyst. There’s not much to say here though, my passion lies within music, not corporate, unless of course it’s music related.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Fun facts, I’m the oldest sibling to one brother and 4 sisters, I’m also father to a dope 9 year old. He’s my driving force to keep pushing n forward in everything that do. Also, although I write and rap, I don’t just write and rap, I like dipping into other genres and colliding with their sounds.
