Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy McTague.
Hi Amy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was a dental hygienist for 20+yrs & have a BS of Science in Dental hygiene. But God used my period of depression to turn my journey around & completely change my life for Him. In Aug 2021, I Worked 40hrs a week at my job & on weekends I went to taxidermy school. I learned whitetails only. Then on Sept 29, 2021 I felt God tell me to trust Him in faith to quit my job & open my shop (season started 10/1/2021) my goal was 15 whitetails but God said trust Me… I ended up with over 55 deer that season by Jan 2022. I have self taught myself on fish & pretty much everything else I mount in my shop. God has built my shop & I now have two locations where one of my sons has ventured in & does taxidermy with me too.
God builds it… we just share His love & obey
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s terrifying to jump into a field I never knew anything about. I wasn’t brought up a hunter. In fact I didn’t learn to hunt till 2017 & wasn’t successful in harvesting a deer till 2019. That year I learn how to harvest & process everything. Now I can do it all harvest, process & put it on the wall. Never dreamed I’d be a ceo of my own shop
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What I specialize in is “not knowing” lol. I laugh b/c it’s true! If I haven’t mounted the animal I will tell my clients this truth. And then normally they reply “I know but you’re going too”. God leads me in my blindness of this journey & giving Him the credit for it all keeps my clientele growing daily. He brings the ones who need Him to me & He protects my shop from the ones who mean me harm.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
My mentor is God. He leads me & He will also send me people who will guide me when I can’t figure out the answers too.
