Hidden Gems: Meet Amy Phillips of Eye Management

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Phillips.

Amy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started as a young model, where I developed a fascination not only with modeling but with how the industry worked behind the scenes. That interest led me to work as a Fashion Retail Editor for Mode Magazine, where I gained experience in fashion publishing, trends, branding, and creative direction.
While at the magazine, I began scouting models for agencies around the world, giving me insight into what agencies did well and what was missing. Soon after, I partnered with Fairlight Hubbard, another former model and industry professional. We had experienced first hand both the opportunities and shortcomings of the business, and wanted to create an agency that put models’ long-term careers and well-being first rather than simply filling bookings. Together we have combined backgrounds in fashion editorial, photography, styling, hair and makeup, creative direction, and model development These shared experiences allow us to guide models and talent on a greater level.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Some struggles, when we first started our agency, was building credibility among our peers and finding the right talent to establish ourselves. When you’re new, you don’t have a roster of successful models or recognizable clients to point to so convincing other agencies or models to work with us took persistence and patience The challenge wasn’t signing as many people as possible; it was signing the right people. We never felt any pressure to grow quickly, but rather decided to keep small and selective because we felt a carefully developed roster would be stronger than a large roster that did not showcase our “eye” for scouting. Funny enough, this is also where our name originated. We eventually would be told we had a great “eye’ for photography and models so the name just stuck.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
