Today we’d like to introduce you to Debria Love.
Hi Debria , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
It all started with a dream, and a letter home on my first grade report card that said ‘Debria talks too much.’ Looking back, that was the first sign. I’ve always had this intense love affair with the arts and performance, the thrill of a live moment, and the beauty of perfecting that moment on film. I love both worlds.
One day I was interviewing Angela Yee, yes, the former Breakfast Club cast member, and I naively asked her what it actually takes to start a career in journalism. I was already three years out of college at that point, just waiting on her answer. She told me: start a podcast. Three years after that conversation, that’s exactly what I’m doing.
I won’t lie, there’s a regret in not starting sooner. But I’m enjoying the fruits of this newfound podcast life. Right now I’m learning what it really means to be a media personality, to have the integrity and work ethic of a real journalist. I’m falling in love with the work itself, not just the result. Staying up late researching, reading, learning, growing, and realizing that success looks nothing like what you imagined. Sometimes success is correction. Sometimes it’s still feeling insecure in the plan, but doing it anyway.
With my show, I’m learning to be a force in media and a force in my own life, so I can influence others to become the force in their own lives that gets them what they need to be great.” The show is aimed to not only entertain but to elevate the viewer to see the world differently after they watch an epsiode . Influence them to have that conversation, sign up for that class, or take that step in their dream.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I grew my following to over 200,000 people across all social media platforms, but a lot of that came from funny, and dare I say cringy, content. I can admit that now, but back then, if you had told me that, I probably would have called you a hater and blocked you. That’s growth and awareness talking.
I thought the followers alone were enough to get me into any room I wanted, until it was time to sit down and interview a model from IMG, one of the top modeling agencies in the world. They never replied to my email, and I was devastated. Then it happened again with GrammyU. They looked at my social media and I got denied.
That’s when I had to really look at the content I was posting and hold it up against the road I actually wanted to walk. If these posts were holding me back from the rooms I wanted to be in, I needed to align my content with those rooms, not just post to validate my ego with likes and comments that were keeping me stagnant.
So the real struggle became letting go of needing validation from other people, and instead becoming confident in my own work.”
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
“I’m a communicator and a lover of people who share ideas that push us forward. Conversations that enhance your life. I remember watching Oprah’s interview with Keke Palmer, and she said, ‘I love my life truly because I was able to tap into the sweetness of it,’ and then she went on to tell us how we can get the sweetness out of our own lives. That’s what I love to do. I pull those stories out of my guests so my viewers can see that they aren’t far from greatness either. Making the dream real and tangible.
So in short, I’m a media personality, podcast host, and creator of Under the Influence with me, Debria Love.
I’m known for the color pink, and for my segment Sip or Spill, where my guests have to spill the tea on their industry or sip the secret drink.
What I’m most proud of is how much my creative team and I have grown since Season 2, and I’m proud of myself for saying yes to the dream, because it has given me a totally new life.

What matters most to you? Why?
“What matters most to me is staying aligned with the purpose for why I was created, and keeping in mind who I will become after it all. Every choice I make with this show, I ask myself if it’s building the version of me I actually want to be, not just the version that looks good in the moment.”
