Today we’d like to introduce you to Mutant Glue.
Hi Mutant, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started back in 2017. A friend of mine wanted to go to a convention in Nashville and didn’t want to go alone. She always wanted to dress up for the convention as well so I agreed. We went to two more conventions after that dressing up for the occasion. The time spent at those cons sparked my love for cosplay. At the time I didn’t know people were doing this kind of thing all the time. I never saw people near me doing it which in turn made me want to do it more. I’ve been involved in this amazing, crazy, hobby/ career ever since.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would say that it’s has been smooth and it hasn’t been smooth. When I started cosplay, it took off rather quickly. Quicker than I expected actually. I was ( and still am) sponsored by a black owner comic book company based out of Colorado, I became a brand ambassador for a makeup company as well. Opportunites presented themselves and I took them as often as I could. The down side of that was people that I thought were supporting me started to show their true colors. Over time I been able to overcome said obstacles and keep a steady path on the right track.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a cosplayer, brand ambassador, content creator and influencer. I use my craft to promote companies as well as bring characters to life. As far as what I specialize in, there is no one particular subject because I dabble in them all. Anything from wig making to foam smith work, I have done a little of bit of everything. I believe that I am known for thinking outside of the box when it comes to cosplays. Whether Im cosplaying a niche character or making one up, I always add my own spin to things.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
For me personally, I learned everything from other cosplayers that were working on the same thing that I was. However, the one tool that I have used for my entire career is Youtube. Everything that I have ever been curious about has been found on Youtube. It has made me become even more creative in my career.
