Check Out Francisco Adaro’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Francisco Adaro.

Hi Francisco , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began painting and drawing at a very young age and have always known I wanted to be an artist. Every day since I was a child I’ve painted or drawn and was lucky enough to have parents that encouraged me to pursue my dreams.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There are two different roads. The road to being an artist and the road to being a full time paid artist. The road to being an artist was innate and came naturally. I didn’t have to work to be an artist it was something I loved to do and did it every day whether it made money or not. Being an artist can be done with any material, in any location, with any educational background. That part is smooth and easy, you just have to be practicing everyday.
Being an artist that’s successful enough to be paid so you can support a family was a bit more winding and certainly not smooth. It takes a certain personality that can handle grinding through big ups and big downs without giving up. Essentially you have to be an entrepreneur as well as an artist and there are often equal parts scary and rewarding moments that can be bumpy to navigate.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’ve perused and enjoyed many many styles and mediums of art throughout my career but consider myself an oil painter first and foremost. I often use the single line drawing concept with charcoal to create whimsical figures on canvas first without too much thought other than memories. Then a unique story emerges on the canvas.
I’ve become known for colorful, whimsical, storybook like paintings often featuring my wife’s rescued animals, especially her most beloved opossums. They are incorporated into the paintings of our family adventures.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was always looking out the window during class and daydreaming about something else other than school. I was the second youngest of five siblings and many, many cousins that lived nearby and were all very close. I loved that we would often go on vacations and spend weekends on my parents farm together. I always had a very strong and interactive family. We’d spend hours and hours making up grand adventures together and using our imaginations. It was a magical childhood that fostered creativity and joy.
