Today we’d like to introduce you to Jody Lynn Malone.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
No Telling your journey along the way can be a pretty long story, but I’ll try to keep it shorter. I started in singing and arts and crafts as a child at five years old I was singing in church and by 12 I was in a Christian rock band. Singing and art became my way of life Then comes the years of your marriage (as of this year 2026, we have been married 49 years),children come and I sang in weddings, parties then I was back in bands in the bars at the same time, I was singing on the worship team at church, etc. I have a wonderful husband who took care of the kids while I was busy singing and then the move to Nashville. It was in four years of working hard I landed a independent record deal with my album rock and blues Christmas by Jody Lynn at the same time working in a retail store Michaels and JoAnns painting samples for them Sewing samples any kind of samples as a visual coordinator I end up quitting this job because obviously that money isn’t good enough in those places, but it served its purpose and I realized I could make more by working for myself. Faith Hill bought a painting of mine. People were coming to me to paint their furniture and more, so it was time too quit my retail job, work less so I could work on my music more and that’s what I did. By this time, my daughter and I were the mother daughter duo the Malone‘s where we learned a lot more about the business and how it’s very different from what you think as a bystander, We were offered record deals that never happened. Music Buisness is filled with disappointment and excitement at the same time but you quit or you keep on going, during this time there’s a lot of busy busy times going on radio interviews singing a lot of places and enjoying the process even being flown picked up in a limo taken to the airport to go to Hollywood to sing in Waltons TV show Reunion that was fun. We had a really good time and I told my daughter, Deana, we were gonna go home and clean the toilets because we were never gonna be divas lol from there things kind of went down so that’s another story and you just keep yourself out there busy with music and arts and crafts. I became a faux finisher making the best money while waiting patiently on everything else to rise, my daughter started having my grandbabies, so it was back to me by myself for my music and I just kept singing locally. Keep it going then the day came that I said I was done. I was in my 50s and I literally said God, you’re just gonna have to take it from here because I’m tired. I love to sing I’m not looking for fame.
I even threw everything away. I threw away my music stand painfully and a little angrily, too. I looked back on my life in music by reading in my journals and I can see there have a lot of ups and downs, but I’ve loved it,That’s who I’ve been my whole life so after boxes of writing materials of course I did keep a copy of each song and going through photos, etc. I had the most peace come upon my life for two weeks peaceful it was wonderful. It was because I had done my part throughout my life and at this point truly gave it to God and told him he could have it whatever he wants.Two weeks went by and I saw the phone rang. I saw a name on phone and I was like oh my gosh it’s Music. Do I answer this? It was the president of Playback Music, and they were looking for sa recording artist to to sing a song written By Richard Weiss, who also was a writer of rhinestone cowboy I was so honored I could not believe it. I was done gave it to They gave me two weeks and within one week I was back in the studio recording a full CD called The world‘s out dancing ,after they had found a money investor so I never had to pay a dime. I look back on my life. I’m blown away at how things happen if you just let go and let God I’m blessed to have done and be where I’m at. I’ve got to do the things I love in life in between my music I scrapbook for people made good money doing that too. I taught classes on faux finishing selling things painting, etc. I was even on a local TV show doing a craft for one of their segments. I sold items in quaint shops.The music started picking up and I ended up on the front page of The National enquirer as the fifth thing to watch for and I have no idea how I got on that but I gotta say that was really fun. Also #5 on CD Baby. Singing promotions etc all over radio tours working with people who are helping me strive to get to where I want it to be I never looked at the fame level for a look at me but a level of how can I use this.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The waiting… But the one thing I learned was to enjoy the journey along the way because that’s where the meat of everything you’re trying to do is it’s not when you get there. It’s in all the people that you met along the way all the lessons you learned along the way.

Ive always created vintage items , I love to make things old and have done this professionally since the 1980s. Having my items in stores, craft store shows and more this can include Sewing decorations pillows that are artsy kind and the list just goes on I used to make dolls bears, etc. I even had a time where my bff lisa where she and I had a company called junk and jewelry back in Oregon and we sold our jewelry which was made from junk buttons the real stuff not not the full stuff you see now and we sold it out of Nordstrom‘s and among other places.
Had someone say to me in the music industry you have to choose Christian music or country music because we have those albums too a Christian gospel album in a country album that my daughter and I did together back in the early 2000s. They said you have to choose one or the other and I said I’m a Christian who sings country music and that’s just the way it is and that sets me apart because I’m true to myself I’m not answering to somebody for what they want to hear and if it’s not what they want to hear and they don’t wanna work with me then it’s not meant to be and that’s OK.,
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
You have to work hard. You have to want it. What is your desire? Is it to make money? Is it to be famous. For me It was I just wanted to sing and make my crafts and I’ve been blessed to do that. There is no one way to make it in business. You just have to get your body out there and do it.
