Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Cintula.
Hi Rachel, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Freedom Sings USA (FSUSA) partners veterans with hit songwriters to tell their story of service through song as a form of music arts therapy. FSUSA was founded 12 years ago due to a perceived need for ongoing connection for veterans and their families beyond the completion of their song. Beginning with one in person class, FSUSA expanded to 8 classes, virtual classes, an all female veteran class, multiple events, and multiple retreats each year.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have been struggles. Navigating the era of COVID and it’s affect on class participation. Fundraising through economic challenges. Navigating technology changes in the music industry. Connecting with different generations of veterans based on their communication styles.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the executive assistant to the founders and board of directors. Also, I am the spouse of an active duty service member, so what I do with Freedom Sings USA is personal to me. Freedom Sings USA does so much with a group of committed volunteers. All our programs are always free to the veteran community.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Connection and being present for the veteran community I serve. Veterans are asked to do and are exposed to so much, then return to society, living as they did before. I feel it is vital to create a community where they fit in after their military service and to capture the reality, in a personal way, of what is/will be one chapter in a history book.
