Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Galardi.
Hi Matthew, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Matthew always wanted to learn how to play guitar in childhood. He was inspired by all genres of music. He was about 20 years old when he picked up the guitar for the first time. After spending his life in the San Francisco Bay Area, he felt the need to pursue another place to settle and ended up in Idaho to be near family in 2016. He joined the classic rock band ‘Chronology’ and soon after as a guitar player he volunteered to switch instruments to bass guitar to keep the band momentum going. He took to playing bass naturally and feels like he’s found his passion with it.
Since coming to Idaho, he has also played with various bands like “Alternate Wednesdays,” “Cabeza,” “X Degenerates,” “Lauren and The Nostalgics,” “Highway45,” “The Mike Johnston Band,” and “WickID Garden.”
Matthew now plays primarily in Boise based dance band ‘EpicUnion’ where their specialty is to get the crowd dancing and engaging with the band. He also plays in country-roc band ‘ShotGlass’. As bass guitarist, Matthew’s passion is to get the crowd to relive old memories and to create new ones through music.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Making the switch from one instrument to another in the middle of being in a band is always a challenge, as well as changing roles and mindsets that set the lead/rhythm guitar apart from bass guitar.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a nurse that works in Orthopedic Surgery. I love helping people regain mobility and help reducing pain that may come from various injuries and illness processes. My favorite days on the job is when we get to give our patients back their mobility and independence.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
So many to choose from, but one that sticks out to me was when I was in grade school, my father went on a business trip during my birthday and my mother made an impromptu party for me with my father on speaker phone. As much as it pained him to not be there, he got himself a cake and we had my birthday party over the phone. We still had my birthday party, and nothing was going to stop them from having it with me.
