Conversations with S. Alicia Williams

Today we’d like to introduce you to S. Alicia Williams.

Hi S. Alicia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My mother was the head person at her church in the community service department. When Covid hit back in 2020 the church did not want us to distribute food from their location. So we moved to a different location and had to have our giveaways under a different name so myself, my mother and another family member decided this would be a good time to start our own nonprofit. I have always wanted to start one so we became T W Family Affair August 25, 2020, after several months, things started going in separate directions so our team split up and I change the name to Believers Covenant February 2021. Myself and my mother we got a trailer, used her truck purchased food from Feed America and would go to different locations and give out food to those in need. For the past 5 years we have turned my moms basement into a pantry and have been making food boxes and having food giveaways at her house.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Smooth road no, not enough donations to cover the cost to purchase the food, maintenance on the truck, gas, taking off work without pay and having to pay out of pocket to do what I love to help others.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I was an Electronic Imaging Tech at Vanderbilt Medical Center for nearly 23 years. I left there September 2021 to have more flexibility to still run my nonprofit. I am currently the lead custodian in a Metro Nashville High School working for ABM. I’ve been with this company for nearly 7 years now. I’m dependable, hard worker, resourceful, a team player, employee of the year at Vanderbilt Records Assistant 2005, ABM employee of the year at the school I worked 2022
