Today we’d like to introduce you to Myah Mayhew.
Hi Myah, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I began my music journey in the church at a very young age (I’m talking as young as two!). I slowly started to take on more musical tasks like piano lessons, voice lessons, and theater, and at the age of 9, I wrote my first song underneath a tree on the playground. Fast forward to 2026 and I still strive to approach music through that lens of childlike joy and passion, whether by writing and recording my own music, teaching music to the next generation, or working behind the scenes.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Of course not! But then again is it ever? My most recent struggle began in July of 2025 when I started noticing some significant problems with my voice. This led to a Muscle Tension Dysphonia diagnosis, characterized by intense tightness vocal fatigue and throat pain after talking or singing. Over the past 7 months, I have been working diligently with a vocal therapist, and I am pleased to say that we are now seeing progress! But I would be lying if I said this wasn’t one of the hardest years of my life (at least as far as music goes). While there were definitely many emotional moments along the way, there was never a moment where I considered giving up on music.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My mission as a creative is to create bold, story-driven artistry that explores difficult topics, instills emotional connection, and amplifies underrepresented voices with authenticity and artistic integrity. While my primary outlet is writing and recording songs, I strive to let this mission permeate every aspect of my life- even the more “mundane” things like my day job or how I navigate college. Most recently, this ethos is displayed in my debut EP, “Cautionary Tales” which I released in September 2025. This project deals with many themes that may be hard to talk about such as church hurt, drug addiction, infidelity, and general emotional turmoil. While it is certainly not the feel good EP of the year, I am incredibly proud of the stories I get to tell, and I have had countless people tell me that they have been impacted by my honesty on the project. It’s this desire for honesty combined with my extensive musical training, both classically and commercially, as well as my diverse influences that sets me apart from others in my field.
What were you like growing up?
Oh boy. I’m gonna let my mom answer this one. She said the following:
“Myah always loved adventure, was always energetic, and always tried to figure out how things worked. She would even take apart her toys and try to put them back together. She was constantly singing, loved science and nature, as well as books and music. She especially loved to pray for other people.”
My mom so kindly neglected to mention that I was an extremely difficult and mischievous child! But we’ll just leave it at the good stuff.
