Rising Stars: Meet Marcus Knight of Nashville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcus Knight.

Hi Marcus, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My story is one of resilience, creativity, and connection. I was born with a congenital heart condition that taught me that life is a gift and every moment carries purpose. Growing up, I experienced both private and public schools, allowing me to build relationships with people from different backgrounds, perspectives, and walks of life. Those experiences shaped my empathy and helped me appreciate the value of diverse stories and communities.

In middle and high school, choir and theatre became more than extracurricular activities. They were where I found my voice. Performing on stage taught me confidence, collaboration, and the power of storytelling to inspire, entertain, and bring people together. Looking back, those experiences planted the seeds for the work I do today.

At Belmont University, where I earned my degree in Business Administration, I discovered the intersection of creativity, communication, and leadership. Serving as a Showcase Series ambassador and later on the Young Alumni Council strengthened my passion for connecting with people and representing something greater than myself. I believe every person carries a story worth telling.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My journey through early adulthood has been defined less by a single obstacle and more by navigating the tension between who I am, who I’m becoming, and the world around me. As a Gen Z creative, I’ve wrestled with finding purpose in a culture that often values productivity, popularity, and performance over meaning. I’ve never struggled with ideas…I’ve struggled, however, with choosing between them. I’ve had to learn that saying “yes” to one calling often means saying “not yet” to another.

I’ve also worked to reconcile ambition with authenticity. I want to build influence, but not at the expense of integrity. In an attention economy driven by trends and algorithms, I’ve often felt the tension of creating work that lasts instead of content that’s quickly forgotten.

I’ve also become increasingly aware of the importance of representation, access, and opportunity. While I don’t want race to define my entire identity, it has shaped my perspective and strengthened my desire to create spaces where people feel seen, valued, and connected. Combined with my faith, these experiences have deepened my belief that every person carries inherent worth and a story worth telling.

More than anything, I’ve spent my twenties learning that my many passions are connected. Marketing, leadership, storytelling, faith, creativity, and community all point toward one mission: helping people discover purpose and cultivate meaningful human connection. Rather than chasing attention, I’m committed to building something deeper: an enduring body of work that empowers others to understand their stories and use them to positively shape the world.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
All in all, I am a digital storyteller and creative strategist who specializes in helping organizations and individuals build authentic connections through compelling stories. My work sits at the intersection of marketing, branding, leadership, and community engagement, with a focus on creating content and experiences that inspire people to discover purpose and build meaningful relationships.

Professionally, I currently serve as a Social Media Marketing Specialist at Premier Franchise Management in Franklin, Tennessee, where I develop marketing strategies and digital content that strengthen brand visibility and drive business growth across multiple franchise brands. Outside of my full-time role, I have the privilege of serving as the Head of Social Media for the College and Young Adults Ministry at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Nashville. There, I helped shape the ministry’s digital voice, creating content that fostered community, encouraged faith, and engaged young adults both online and in person.

It’s all about the opportunity to use creativity to serve people. Throughout my career, whether working with nonprofits, entrepreneurs, churches, or businesses, I’ve seen firsthand that stories have the power to build trust, inspire action, and create lasting impact. And what most people fail to understand is that storytelling is more than a marketing strategy. It’s a framework for human connection. It’s not just helping brands and communities communicate what they do, but why they exist and how their stories can positively shape the lives of others.

What are your plans for the future?
Looking ahead, I’m excited to continue growing as both a professional and a storyteller. My long-term vision is to build a platform that helps people discover purpose and cultivate meaningful human connection through storytelling. I’m currently developing several projects, both digital and print, that’ll hopefully explore how our stories shape our identities, relationships, and communities.

I’m also looking forward to deepening my involvement in my church and local community, while continuing to invest in meaningful relationships and lifelong learning.

But most of all, continuing to do what I love. Yes, creating content and getting brand deals and whatnot, but also building an enduring body of work. My goal is to create resources, conversations, and experiences that outlast trends and encourage people to understand themselves better, connect with others, and use their own stories to make a lasting difference in the world.
