Today we’d like to introduce you to Devon Burkhart.
Hi Devon , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Chic Flips Home Transitions was founded from a simple belief: life’s biggest transitions deserve more than a real estate agent or an estate sale company—they deserve a trusted guide.
As the founder of Chic Flips Home Transitions, I set out to create a business that helps people navigate the emotional and practical challenges that come with downsizing, estate settlements, inherited homes, and major life changes. Today, my wife Ashley and I work together to provide a true home transition service, combining real estate, estate sales, downsizing assistance, clean-outs, and community resources under one roof.
Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of helping hundreds of families across East Tennessee move from one chapter of life to the next. Along the way, we’ve realized our mission extends far beyond homes. We’ve become passionate about building community, supporting local small businesses, educating seniors and their families through workshops, and creating opportunities for people to connect.
That passion has led to projects like the Chic Flips Community Market, community partnerships with local nonprofits and churches, educational workshops, and media appearances focused on helping others prepare for life’s transitions with confidence.
At the end of the day, our business has never really been about selling houses or selling furniture. It’s about serving people during some of the most important moments of their lives, building lasting relationships, and leaving our community a little better than we found it.
It’s been an incredible journey so far, and we’re excited to continue growing, serving, and finding new ways to make a positive impact throughout East Tennessee.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like most small businesses, we’ve faced the usual challenges—building brand awareness, navigating an ever-changing market, wearing multiple hats, and continually adapting as our business has grown. But the biggest challenge has been something I never expected.
When you’re helping families through downsizing, estate settlements, and inherited homes, you’re often meeting people during one of the most emotional seasons of their lives. Learning how to balance the practical side of the job with compassion for grief, uncertainty, and major life transitions has been one of the greatest lessons of my career.
I’ve learned that sometimes people don’t need someone to simply sell a house or organize an estate sale. They need someone who will listen, be patient, and guide them through the process one step at a time.
Ironically, that’s also become the most rewarding part of what we do. The challenges have shaped not only our business, but the way we serve people. Every obstacle has pushed us to think bigger, improve our services, and continue finding new ways to help families and strengthen our community.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Chic Flips Home Transitions is a home transition company that helps people navigate some of life’s biggest changes. While many people know us for our estate sales, we’re much more than that. We combine real estate, estate sales, downsizing assistance, property clean-outs, and community resources to provide one coordinated solution for families who are moving, downsizing, settling an estate, or preparing a home for the market.
What sets us apart is that we don’t just focus on the house or the belongings—we focus on the people. Every family has a different story, and we believe every transition deserves a thoughtful, compassionate approach. Whether someone is moving to a smaller home, helping aging parents, settling a loved one’s estate, or preparing to sell, our goal is to make an overwhelming process feel manageable.
Our mission has also grown beyond the services we provide. We believe strong communities are built by connecting people, which has led us to create educational workshops for seniors and their families, partner with local churches and nonprofits, and launch the Chic Flips Community Market to help small businesses, entrepreneurs, and community organizations grow while giving back to the community.
The thing I’m most proud of isn’t the number of homes we’ve sold or estate sales we’ve conducted—it’s the relationships we’ve built. Many of our clients become friends, many of our shoppers become repeat customers, and many of our business relationships have grown into lasting partnerships.
At Chic Flips Home Transitions, our tagline is, “From the Closet to the Closing Table, We Handle It All.” More than anything, we want people to know that we’re here to help them move forward with confidence, compassion, and a trusted team by their side.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
No one builds a business alone, and I certainly haven’t.
First and foremost, my wife Ashley has been my biggest supporter and partner. She’s been willing to jump into every challenge right alongside me, whether that’s setting up estate sales, moving furniture, preparing homes, brainstorming new ideas, or simply believing in the vision when it was still just an idea. Chic Flips wouldn’t be what it is today without her.
I’m also incredibly grateful to our clients. They trust us during some of the most emotional and important seasons of their lives, and that trust is something I never take for granted. Many have become repeat clients, friends, and some of our biggest advocates through referrals and word of mouth.
I’m thankful for the local businesses, churches, nonprofits, vendors, and community leaders who have partnered with us over the years. Those relationships have helped shape Chic Flips into much more than a business—they’ve helped turn it into a community.
Finally, I’m grateful for the mentors, colleagues, and professionals who have shared their knowledge along the way. Every conversation, every lesson, and every opportunity has played a part in helping me grow both personally and professionally.
When people ask about success, I don’t think about awards or accomplishments. I think about relationships. The people who have encouraged us, trusted us, challenged us, and believed in what we’re building deserve just as much credit as we do..
