Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Hall.
Hi Katie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As an English Literature & Creative Writing major over 20 years ago, I completed a senior capstone course, reading a work by a different author each week and submitting brief one-page reflection papers. My professor wrote in his notes on one of my assignments: “you seem so preoccupied with discussing your findings about the author that you have little time to dive into analysis of the text.” He didn’t mean this as a compliment, but how right he was! Thus began my first career in the book publishing industry, where I was blessed to represent dozens of authors and connect their work with readers through marketing and publicity work. Years later, I took my storytelling, event production, and branding skills to the nonprofit sector where I served as a development director. I married my amazing husband Wes 2017 and moved from the Antioch area to Murfreesboro. Around the same time, I also completed my yoga teacher training and began developing classes to make yoga accessible to all, always teaching from my Christian worldview. In 2020, I found out I was expecting a COVID baby: a positive pregnancy test and a positive COVID test on the same day! After returning from maternity leave, I felt called to stay at home with our new baby and decided to begin freelancing as a consultant and grantwriter. I’ve always loved crafting and other creative projects and launched Tennessee Peach, my embroidery and event design business, in 2023. Being self-employed gives me incredible flexibility to be there for our two beautiful daughters and the community. I am a founding member and leader for 100 Women Who Care Rutherford County, a giving circle that has donated more than $135,000 to local nonprofits over the last six years.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There’s no such thing as a smooth road, and thank goodness, because that’s where all the best and most powerful stories originate! Transitioning in my career, learning to be a mother, walking through trials with family and friends: it’s all part of a bigger story I know God is writing with my life. I wear a gold charm around my neck that says “Every. Last. Thing.” Chances are, if I’ve had the chance to encourage someone, they’ll tell you that I believe God redeems every last thing, for God’s glory and for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28). God never wastes a hurt, and if we’ll allow it, our lives can tell the most beautiful, valuable stories.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Whether I’m writing a grant, coordinating a wedding, or teaching a yoga class series, or designing an embroidery project, all of my work comes back to powerful storytelling. I’m known for creating items and experiences that show people they are celebrated and significant. I pay a lot of attention to meaningful details, like digitizing handwriting for embroidering special memorial gifts or the perfect on-theme costume.
What matters most to you?
Ultimately, what truly matters is that I use my life as a sacrifice to my Creator, using every gift to create and care for the projects and people in my circle. Sometimes this is leading in a public way, and other times it’s encouraging one of our daughters or a friend walking through a hard season. I feel most alive when I ask for wisdom to serve well.
