Today we’d like to introduce you to Brett Manning.
Hi Brett, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up, listening to my mom sing. She was a professional singer in Las Vegas and knew the rat pack.
Discovered Elvis when I was 10 years old and entered a talent contest in my school at one. But then swore off Singing in favor of sports until somewhere around 14 or 15 whenever you discovered it.
I went on a long journey to try to fix a voice that had changed in ways that I had no idea how to correct.
Had some answers and some myths added to be until I finally met Seth Riggs in Los Angeles in 1991 and the first lesson shifted the complete trajectory of my career.
Since then, I’ve been able to author over a dozen vocal programs, and a few of them have become best sellers around the world.
I’ve also been blessed to teach dozens of Grammy winners and trained dozens of vocal coaches around the world.
I’m a Singer Songwriter, father, Coach, Author, nutrition, freak, and theology nerd..
All of these things make me a more interesting, and I believe compelling, musician
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’ve had more ups and downs, valleys, and mountain tops, and a person could ever imagine.
Your music industry is not for the faint of heart. If things are going too smoothly, you’re probably not that successful..
In my own life, I’ve really rarely suffered any betrayal it was significant, until I became successful in the music industry. In fact, I met the best and worst people I’ve ever known in the music industry. So if a person can learn discernment and navigate those waters, they can have Joy. But this is not for the naïve.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At my company which is called Singing Success, and my in person coaching business, my Associates and I are all professional voice hackers. We are able to fix brakes, limited range, tight, throats, bad tone, quality, and un interesting voices and we do this often in minutes. But it’s a lifelong pursuit to become great.
All in all… We like to say “we build great singers”
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
One other thing… Not all techniques are created equal. This is why we have reconstructed and deconstructed our own method here multiple times. Leaving out certain exercises that were previously thought useful but have limited benefit. Meanwhile, we have created new exercise exercises that can take a voice from struggling to confident in a few minutes.
One of the most difficult things is differentiation. Whether you’re a singer or a coach or a songwriter, it will do you know good to do the same thing as everybody else. You must carve out your own niche and continuously reinvent yourself without polluting your own brand.
