Today we’d like to introduce you to Georgette Green.
Hi Georgette, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was working as a mental health therapist in Nashville before moving to Pensacola in 2016. Before long, I accepted a position with Indigo River Publishing. My role quickly grew into a full-time position as I began handling incoming author submissions while also seeking out potential authors for our nonfiction catalog.
In 2020, my son and I took over the company, with him stepping into the role of CEO and me stepping into the role of COO. Over the past six years, we have built an amazing team and grown Indigo into a mid-size publishing house.
This past spring, I shifted into the role of Partner & Publisher and we recently promoted a member of our team to serve as COO. In May, I moved back to Nashville, where I continue to work and seek new opportunities for growth both professionally and personally.
Returning to Nashville feels like coming full circle, and I am grateful to begin this next chapter in a city that has always meant so much to me.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There have definitely been struggles along the way. Book publishing is a complex business. While many people are familiar with the larger changes in the industry, the day-to-day reality is that publishing is continually evolving, with countless moving parts and relationships. The work involves more than relationships with our team and authors. There are the giants, like Amazon and our distributors. As the number of authors grows, so does the complexity.
Taking over the company in 2020 required us to lead through a period of rapid change while building the team and systems needed to support a growing author list. That experience reinforced the importance of adaptability, communication, and having the right people in the right roles.
Book publishing is truly a team sport, and I cannot express how important it is to have the right team in place. I mentioned earlier how fortunate we are to have such amazing talent. All of our department heads meet together and keep things moving. They have respect for one another and for how the different departments operate.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Indigo River Publishing?
Indigo River Publishing is a midsize independent publishing house. We publish across genres and work with authors under both traditional and hybrid contracts. We strongly value the relationships we build with our authors, and those relationships begin with respect.
What sets Indigo apart is the combination of rigorous publishing standards and a deeply collaborative, relationship-driven approach. We work alongside our authors to protect their voices while creating books built to last.
We understand the importance of honoring an author’s vision and voice as we guide each project through a multilayered editorial and creative design process.
The original founders of Indigo created the tagline “Words Worth Reading” and we continue to honor that goal with every book we create and publish. It is important to us that we can be proud of every project, that our authors see their visions come to fruition, and that we create books of lasting quality that can touch readers’ lives for years to come.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Faith and family. Life can be challenging and messy. My faith helps me stay focused and find meaning in what I do and experience. My family brings me joy, and I am so very grateful for the love and friendship that we share. Those values also help shape how I lead and how I work with our team and authors.
