Conversations with Zach Weaver

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zach Weaver.

Hi Zach, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I laugh every time someone asks this question, because I went to college to study music as a drummer and left a film director. Ever since I have fallen wildly in love with storytelling in every format. From non-profit campaign work where I met my wife, to film photography of all kinds through our mutual love of documenting! I love it all! I can’t get enough of the way light communicates a story.

When Covid hit, friends needed their backyard weddings documented and I said yes! It was Weaver Media’s beginning, and from there we have seen it evolve into something so terrific. We’ve been honored with an amazing team of shooters that have taken us to collaborative places we wouldn’t otherwise ever have gone, and been undone by being invited into the behind the scenes of wildly deep love stories. I absolutely love, love being the one to remind someone how their day felt in ten, twenty, seventy years from now.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In all honesty, I’m not sure I’ve met an artist who’s had a smooth road! Let alone one trying to support their family through their art. We tell all our couples that we truly cannot do what we do without them. Learning to find your exact look and approach on a day with such high stakes (I mean, truly, it’s all you take with you from your day) was intense! You create art for hours on end, sometimes week after week. Staying fresh and inspired can be difficult, especially in the beginning when you’re still learning who you are as a storyteller. I’ve worked hard to find a rhythm and flow that keeps me seeing moments as frames throughout a wedding day, it was like working out a muscle I didn’t even know existed before. Now it feels easy to find specific moments I know are coming, and exciting to break out of the box each day to allow each couple, family, moment, etc. to speak to me as celebration and big emotions unfold. Truly no wedding and no couple are like another!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We specialize in documentary digital and film wedding photography and videography. It sometimes feels like we do it all! We are beyond proud of our style of storytelling. From our galleries that document the in between moments which are breathtaking on film to our wedding videos which are edited unlike any other. We storytell our films sequentially so you feel as though you truly relive every moment of the day.

Any big plans?
I feel like there’s always a big plan or exciting new gear on the horizon… right now we’re working towards almost entirely film galleries!! We know it can seem scary to our couples, but time continues to prove to us that light doesn’t translate the same on any digital format the way it does on any kind of film camera body. And honestly, everyone’s favorite photo’s from their day always end up being the one’s on 35mm or medium format!!
