Rising Stars: Meet Cameron Bedell of Nashville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cameron Bedell.

Hi Cameron, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Raised in Wichita, KS. Moved to Nashville in 2010 to pursue music and finish my college at Belmont University. In the Fall of 2013 I had a short stint on American Idol. Following that I was able to gain a handful of fans with my covers of “Issues” by Julia Michaels and “Earned It’ by the Weeknd. After 6 years of being in town grinding, and trying to meet everyone possible, while also playing local writers rounds and cowriting with everyone possible; I signed my first publishing deal to become a full time staff writer with Liz Rose Music and Warner Chappell. I got my first Gold record in 2019 with a song called “Breakups” by Seaforth and my first #1 radio hit in 2020-21 with a song called “Down Home” by Jimmie Allen. Since then I’ve had my songs recorded by artists such as Carly Pearce, Chris Lane, Lady A, Hailey Whitters, Dylan Scott, Lauren Alaina and many many more.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth road….not even close. It has been very tough. It’s hard for me to celebrate my wins sometimes because I’ve had so many “losses”. The amount of times Ive been told “no”, or “Its not good enough”, etc. Is enough to drive any sane person mad. But if i know anything at all i know this. The only way to fail, is to quit. You just have to stick around.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m very very proud of my work as a writer and producer on all the Tiera Kennedy projects. Her and I have a special bond musically and it has always been an absolute pleasure to work with her. When people ask what my speciality is I always say I’m an R&B guy at heart. I grew up on R&B and pop. Guys like Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, John Mayer, Gavin Degraw etc. But country music is where I make the most sense because of my way of life. I’m a country boy, no doubt. I drink beer, love family, love God, go to church, own horses and chickens (no thats a lie). But yea i’m pretty down home country kid. So the marriage of R&B and country makes the most sense for me. I thrive in the writers room as a top liner doing melody work but have also spent all my time in nashville learning from the absolute best on how to craft an incredible lyric, and I pride myself on that as well. From time to time I’ll get my hands on the Rig and run the production for the day but I would say thats kind of my “3rd” talent behind top lining and lyrics.

How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happy is coming home from a session and my kids (4) running into my arms with a big ol smile. Kissing my wife. Grabbing a beer and starting up the grill on a 80 degree June day.
