Today we’d like to introduce you to Corrie Scott.
Hi Corrie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hi! My name is Corrie (although a lot of people call me Taylor accidentally thinking it’s my first name). It’s actually my middle name! I am wife to Travis Scott (not the rapper) and mom to 3 kids Jaxon, Sadie, and Ellie! I am the Children’s Church Director and my husband is one of the Worship leaders at our local church. (I’m also a Pastor’s kid and we go to the same church that my dad started when I was just 6 years old). We met there, got engaged there, got married there, we recently renewed our vows there on our 10 year anniversary, and we are raising our kids there. Such a blessing! When I graduated college in 2015, I graduated with a teaching degree and began teaching at a local school in Cookeville. I loved it, but sadly I did not get renewed that year. So I substitute taught for a year while trying to interview for other teaching positions. Summer was quickly approaching and as you know, subs don’t make anything in the summer. An accounting job became available through someone in our church. What I thought would be a summer accounting job turned into a 6 year long career. While on maternity leave with my 2nd child, I noticed a friend say how thankful she was that she could run her bookkeeping business from home and still be with her babies. I wanted that, so I reached out to her and literally said “I would love to do that but I don’t have an accounting degree” (she graduated with her degree in accounting). She said “you don’t have to have one!” and I said “TELL ME MORE!”. I was driving 45 minutes one way to do the same type of work that I do from home. She explained the necessary courses to take to be certified and gain the knowledge needed. In December of 2021 I opened Taylor Made Bookkeeping Solutions while working full time. In September of 2023 I went full time stay-at-hom-work-from-home mom and have been full time ever since! Now I get to be home while my husband works as a machinist and homeschool our 3 kids. It’s such a blessing from the Lord!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not, I love my job and I love my clients but there have definitely been some tough seasons. Busyness of motherhood and balancing work with husband and family and other obligations is very challenging. Gaining clients can also be a struggle. At first I would take any type of client mainly because I wasn’t sure what specific niche I wanted to work with. Now, I know and can tell when something is not a good fit.
We’ve been impressed with Taylor Made Bookkeeping Solutions, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I provide bookkeeping services to Creative Entrepreneurs. I have a list of 20-22 clients from all over the USA ranging from California, Tennessee, Idaho, Texas, Florida, Ohio, and Massachusetts. I love working with creatives, being a creative myself, I understand their business, it’s more straightforward, and just makes sense! I love how I have been able to build my brand from scratch on my own. I designed and built my logo, website, and colors on my own. I want readers to know that bookkeeping is something every business owner needs. I love being able to tailor my packages to fit the needs of business owners.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love the sights and attractions. I live about an hour away from Nashville. I don’t frequent there but me and my husband honeymooned there. I’m not a fan of traffic
