Today we’d like to introduce you to Mollie Levy.
Hi Mollie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have been an avid sports fan all of my life – I grew up attending Padres games and San Diego Chargers games with my family and playing multiple sports myself, but I also loved performing and put my passion for sports aside from much of my adolescence in order to prioritize theater and hopefully making a career out of acting. I attended and acting conservatory program after high school and while I learned a lot and hones my craft, I also knew the rat race of that industry and the lifestyle of LA was not for me. I came home, re-grouped, and rediscovered my love of sports. This sparked the fire that has driven me to where I am today. I started taking classes at the local community college and got into Chapman University in their Broadcast Journalism and Documentary Filmmaking program – unfortunately covid cut my time there short, but I found my passion for journalism and stuck with it. I transferred to San Diego State University and got a job with the San Diego Gulls. I was looking to just get my foot in the door in the local professional sports world, but I got so much more. I’ve made life long friends & been given the opportunity and support to grow in my career. I was hired on as a member of the Flight Crew, a forward facing role with the organization that specializes in fan engagement. We cheer for the team at games and engage the community at local events. Being a part of the in game production team was such a perfect fit that when the opportunity arose I threw my name in the hat to help with in-arena hosting and a new passion and career path blossomed. I was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to host a handful of games last season and have been brought back on as one of two hosts for this season. That opportunity gave me the confidence to apply to be the Emcee for the Lake Elsinore Storm, a minor league affiliate of the San Diego Padres. Thanks to the experience I already had and connections I had made working with the San Diego Gulls for two years prior I was able to get the job and am about to wrap up my first season with them. I am so grateful to be establishing myself as a professional sports host in the San Diego community and my dream is to continue working in this industry and helping to create the kinds of memories and experience for sports fans that made me fall in love with the sports world in the first place.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth path – I attended several colleges before getting my degree and heard a lot of nos in the sports industry before getting my first yes.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a in-arena/stadium host & emcee! I facilitate all parts of the sporting experience that are not the actual game itself. Whether that be running pre-game components like introducing the anthem singer and line-up or facilitating in game activations and activities, I am the face and voice of the organization. I am proud to be a young female in this line of work and that I am able to infuse my passion for performing into the sports world.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I hope to see this industry expand so that sports can feel more accessible for everyone. I think in an in-arena host/emcee is the perfect link for both casual sports fans and die-hard ones alike, but I think this industry can capitalize on that and help make more casual fans, or even sports haters into bigger fans in the way in which we provide a little something for everyone.
