Today we’d like to introduce you to Arianna Hume.
Hi Arianna, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
For sure! My name is Arianna, and I’m the owner and director of Liberty Music Academy (LMA). I’ve loved music for as long as I can remember and got involved at a young age through church and school choirs, musical theater productions, and, of course, countless hours singing along to my favorite songs in my bedroom.
When it came time to choose a college and figure out my next steps, music felt like the only path for me so I packed up and moved to Nashville to earn my degree in Commercial Music. Then, what started as a part-time job teaching music lessons to kids after graduation quickly became a full-time passion.
Over the years, I realized there was so much I wished I had learned earlier—not just about becoming a better musician, but about performing, recording, songwriting, and navigating the music industry as a whole. That realization inspired me to build Liberty Music Academy.
Today, my goal is to give young musicians the head start I wish I’d had by teaching practical, real-world skills alongside strong musical foundations. I want our students to leave with not only confidence in their abilities and greater appreciation for their craft, but also a clearer understanding of the many opportunities a life in music can offer.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not! Owning a business is one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done, but it’s also one of the hardest. You’re pouring your time, energy, and heart into something that often takes years to pay off (if it does at all!), and when I first started, I truly had no idea what I was getting myself into.
I’ve experienced just about every challenge you can imagine—from starting with a business partner and eventually transitioning to full ownership, to packing up and relocating multiple times, to spending hours in the car schlepping instruments and equipment to events, gigs, and pop-ups, all while wearing what felt like every hat imaginable. There have been plenty of long days, difficult decisions, and moments where I questioned whether it would all work out.
Looking back, though, I’m grateful for every one of those experiences. They helped me grow both as a business owner and as a person, gave me confidence in my ability to navigate whatever comes next, and truly shaped the way I lead Liberty Music Academy today.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As you know, I’m pretty passionate about showing people what a career in music actually looks like, so I’d love to tell you more about what I do!
While studying at Belmont University, I created a unique course path that combined Commercial Voice, Music Technology, and Web Development. At the time, I didn’t realize I was laying the foundation to eventually own and market my own business while also building a career as a professional musician.
Today, my work is made up of three main areas: music education, recording sessions, and live performance.
Through Liberty Music Academy, I have the privilege of helping young musicians build strong musical foundations while also introducing them to the many career opportunities available in the music industry. Outside of teaching, I work as a session vocalist, recording both from my home studio and in recording studios around Nashville. I’ve had the opportunity to lend my voice to music released by artists and songwriters, as well as television and film projects, so it’s always exciting to hear my work pop up in unexpected places.
On the performance side, I’ve been fortunate to sing in just about every setting imaginable—from hotel residencies and corporate events to weddings, restaurants, themed entertainment, and private events. While I don’t pursue a career as a solo recording artist, I genuinely love collaborating with other musicians and helping bring their creative visions to life.
Overall, what I’m most proud of is being able to bring all of those experiences back into the classroom. Our students aren’t just learning scales and songs—they’re learning from professional musicians who are actively working in the industry every day. I think that real-world perspective is what sets Liberty Music Academy apart and allows us to prepare students not only to become better musicians, but to better understand the music industry as a whole.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Ok! To take my professional “boss” hat off for a second, here are a few random things that make me genuinely happy outside of work:
1. Seasonal fruit. I know this sounds silly, but fruit that truly peaks in season makes me so happy. Watermelon in the summer, grapefruits in the winter, pomegranates around the holidays…I look forward to them every single year. There’s something about enjoying them at just the right time that makes them feel extra special.
2. A really good book. I’m a huge reader—I can easily finish a book in a day if it’s a good one. Finding a story that completely pulls me in (especially if it’s part of a series!) is one of my favorite feelings. I love getting immersed in a different world for a little while.
3. Drive-in movie theaters. I don’t know why, but I’m absolutely obsessed with drive-ins. There’s something about the nostalgia, sitting under the stars, and having all my favorite movie snacks within arm’s reach that makes me ridiculously happy. I actually go to a drive-in every year for my birthday, and it’s become one of my favorite traditions.
I guess what all of these have in common is that they remind me to slow down and enjoy the little things. Running a business can be hectic, so moments like these help me step back, appreciate what’s around me, and smile.
