Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelli Cox.
Hi Kelli, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up in Denver and started playing piano when I was four. There were a lot of neat opportunities to learn to play and a lady at the end of my street who had her own all girl band in the 40’s. I got in her organization and played with some of the best players in Denver. That lead to me going to music school in Miami and then coming up here trying to build a music career. I have been in the Nashville area for 31 years now and have had a ton of experience doing all kinds of music!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a smooth road for many reasons. My husband has a business and we had an unfortunate problem with it that took us a long time to get out of financial difficulties with it. I also had three kids so I chose to limit my travel and that curtailed a lot of opportunities.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a pianist. I play all kinds of commercial music ( rock, pop, jazz, country). I have my own sextet that I have recorded with and I play with lots of different artists as well. I think I am most proud of being able to make music my living all my life and managing to hang with so many great musicians here!!
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Honestly I have always tried to prioritize God and my family above all, but I have also tried to show my kids you can still fulfill your dreams and do the things that help fulfill your purpose in life.
