Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandra Mihic.
Hi Sandra , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I came to the U.S. from former Yugoslavia (Serbia) in 1998 and have called Nashville home ever since. I started Sandra’s Easy Cooking in 2010, while raising my three kids. It really began as a creative outlet and a place where I could share the food I was already making for my family, never thinking it would actually turn into a career.
I taught myself photography, writing, recipe development, and later video, mostly by doing it over and over again and learning along the way. Somehow, that little food blog grew into hundreds of recipes, years of working with brands, and a community of people who have been cooking along with me for more than a decade.
Sixteen years later, I’m still creating, learning, and evolving. My work has expanded beyond recipes, but I still love what started it all: food, photography, and storytelling. What began as a small creative outlet became something I built from the ground up, and I’m very proud of how far it has come.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not a smooth road. I think one of the biggest challenges has been keeping up with an industry that never stops changing. When I started blogging, things were completely different. Since then, we’ve gone through so many changes with social media, algorithms, video becoming almost a requirement, and now AI. Just when you think you have something figured out, the rules change again. I’ve even had to learn some coding and the technical side of running a website so I can handle a lot of the behind-the-scenes maintenance myself.
There have also been plenty of ups and downs when it comes to work. Being self-employed in a creative field can be unpredictable. Some seasons are incredibly busy, while others are very quiet, and you learn quickly that nothing is guaranteed.
I’ve had moments when I questioned whether I should keep going, but I always come back to how much I genuinely love doing this. I think the biggest lesson for me has been learning how to adapt without losing myself or the reason I started in the first place.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a recipe developer, food photographer, videographer, and storyteller. I create approachable recipes inspired by my Balkan roots, my life in America, and simply the food my family and I love to eat.
What I’m most proud of is that after all these years, my work still feels like me. I’ve never wanted to fit into one box or follow every trend. I think what sets me apart is the life and experience behind what I create… and the fact that I’ve stayed true to myself while continuing to grow.
How do you think about happiness?
Creating makes me happy. It could be cooking, photography, writing, reading, or simply making something beautiful out of an ordinary moment. I think I’ve always needed that creative outlet. But more than anything, it’s the simple things, having my family around, my pets, a full table, good food, laughter, and time together. Those are the moments that make everything else feel worthwhile.
