Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrice Whiffen.
Patrice, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My company started by mistake – I never planned to be an entrepreneur. I was let go from an events job I had worked the previous summer, because at the last minute, the company decided to leave the event space. I then got a call from a former client, who asked if I could run their event that year myself. I made the decision to say “YES” – even though I had no business doing so – and my company was born!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been a challenging road for sure! As someone who didn’t initially want to be an entrepreneur, I learned a lot of things the hard way – think taxes, setting things up officially, moving a business to another country. It’s been a journey! But I am a big advocate for failing out loud. Everyone fails, and failure is only a bad thing if we don’t learn from it. I’m lucky to say I’ve built my business over the last 18 years, and it’s definitely gotten easier and smoother, but there’s always challenges, and that’s what keeps life exciting, right?
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Honey Music Inc. is the United States operation of Patrice Whiffen Collective, which was originally founded in Canada, and still operates there to this day. Honey Music offers event production under the umbrella of Patrice Whiffen Collective, but the company has grown into artist management and development. There’s a natural synergy between the entertainment world, artist development, and the event space (think tours, showcases, album release parties etc). It’s been a natural fit to put all of these services in one place, to help clients in the sports and entertainment landscape with their overall branding and growth strategies.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t know that I believe in luck. As a Christian, I believe that God’s plan is pre-set, but it takes our efforts to bring things to fruition. Sometimes it’s hard to trust in his plan, but I continue to pray for guidance and direction, while remaining appreciative for the journey.
