Meet Robert Warren of Nashville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Warren.

Hi Robert, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey into healthcare technology didn’t start in a corporate boardroom or a Silicon Valley incubator—it started on our couch in Gallatin, Tennessee.

My wife is a Family Nurse Practitioner with her own independent practice here in Gallatin. Every single day, she gives her absolute all to her patients, providing compassionate, high-quality care. But for years, her workday never actually ended when the clinic doors closed. She would come home, sit down at the table, and spend another three to four hours every night typing up patient charts, treatment plans, and medical SOAP notes.

In the medical community, they call this ‘pajama time’—that second shift where healthcare providers sacrifice their personal lives just to keep up with electronic health record paperwork. I watched firsthand as that administrative burden took a physical and emotional toll. It wasn’t just a documentation problem; it was a life problem, stealing away our evenings, dinner conversations, and time as a family.

I knew there had to be a human-centered way to harness modern technology to fix this. I set out to build a tool that could sit quietly in the background during a patient visit, listen ambiently to the natural conversation, and automatically structure a complete, defensible, and accurate clinical note.

That’s how ezScribe was born. It started as a solution built out of love for my wife so she could finally reclaim her evenings. Today, seeing it transform the daily lives of other doctors, nurse practitioners, dentists, and clinicians has been the most rewarding part of this journey.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Building in health tech is never a smooth, straightforward road. When you are dealing with clinical documentation, patient privacy, and medical billing, the margin for error is essentially zero.

On the technical side, ambient clinical listening is extraordinarily complex. A standard conversation between a clinician and a patient is full of natural noise—cross-talk, background equipment, patients trailing off, and rapid medical jargon spoken in various regional accents or multi-language settings. Engineering our AI engine to capture ambient dialogue, separate the clinical noise from actionable data, and output a structured, defensible SOAP note complete with accurate ICD-10 diagnosis codes was a big hurdle.

On top of that, we had to ensure security:

Zero-compromise HIPAA compliance: Implementing AES-256 bit encryption at rest, TLS 1.3 in transit, and an architecture that auto-purges data to ensure zero long-term retention of Protected Health Information (PHI).

EHR Integration Without Friction: Independent practices use dozens of different Electronic Health Record systems (like Epic, AthenaHealth, and eClinicalWorks). Building our custom Chrome extension (ezScribe Push) so providers could map and transfer notes in a single click without needing expensive custom IT setups was a huge engineering challenge, but essential for usability.

On the industry side, the biggest obstacle was disrupting the predatory pricing norm in healthcare software. Legacy enterprise AI scribes routinely gate their pricing behind high-pressure sales calls, require multi-thousand-dollar setup fees, and lock practices into annual contracts that cost $300 to $500 per month per provider. Independent practitioners—the lifeblood of community medicine—were simply being priced out.

Proving that we could deliver enterprise-grade medical accuracy, unmetered transcription, and HIPAA compliance for a flat $49 a month without taking venture capital compromises is a major uphill battle, but it is the exact challenge worth fighting for.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
At ezScribe, we build ambient AI documentation software specifically tailored for independent medical and dental practices—including primary care, family health, dentistry, and oral surgery across Middle Tennessee and beyond.

What We Do & What We Specialize In
We specialize in eliminating healthcare burnout by transforming spoken patient conversations into structured, audit-ready clinical documentation.

Instead of staring at a laptop keyboard while a patient talks, clinicians open ezScribe on their phone or computer, tap record, and put the screen down. Powered by specialized medical AI engines (Gemini Pro and OpenAI Whisper), ezScribe listens in the background, filters out casual chit-chat, and instantly generates a comprehensive, defensible SOAP note complete with auto-attached ICD-10 diagnosis codes.

What We Are Known For
We are known for making healthcare software effortless. Clinicians don’t need an IT department or hours of training to use ezScribe:

One-Tap Ambient Capture: Tap once, conduct the exam naturally, and walk out with a complete clinical note.

ezScribe Push Extension: A free Chrome extension that transfers completed notes straight into browser-based EHRs (like Epic, AthenaHealth, or eClinicalWorks) in a single click—no tedious copy-pasting.

Multilingual Capability: Captures encounters across 22+ languages—transcribing English, Spanish, and French seamlessly and creating instant plain-language patient education handouts.

What We Are Most Proud Of
What I’m most proud of isn’t just the software engineering—it’s the human impact. I’m proud of every evening we give back to clinicians. Hearing a local nurse practitioner or physician tell us, ‘For the first time in ten years, I had dinner with my family at 6:00 PM without bringing my laptop to the table’—that is the ultimate measure of our success.

I’m also immensely proud that we’ve helped independent practices capture the full level of care they actually deliver. By auto-attaching proper ICD-10 codes, we ensure practices stop downcoding their visits and losing thousands of dollars in earned revenue each year.

What Sets Us Apart From Competitors
The health tech industry is notorious for hidden pricing, high-pressure sales calls, and predatory annual contracts. Legacy enterprise scribe tools (like DeepScribe or Nuance DAX) often charge $300 to $500 per provider per month and lock practices into rigid agreements.

We set ourselves apart by standing up for independent practices with radical accessibility:

Flat, Transparent Pricing: Starting at $49 per provider per month for unlimited transcriptions—with zero setup fees and no long-term contracts.

Instant Onboarding: Clinicians can sign up in 90 seconds, run their first dictation in 10 minutes, and start a 14-day free trial without taking a mandatory sales demo.

We don’t believe AI should replace clinical judgment—we believe it should free clinicians to focus on what matters most: looking their patients in the eye and getting home to their families on time.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Where I am—and where ezScribe is today—is entirely because of the people who believed in this mission before there was even a product to show for it.

First and most importantly, my wife, Susan, who is a Family Nurse Practitioner at her independent practice, Family Health Care of Gallatin. Honestly, ezScribe exists because I watched her lose three to four hours every night to charting after a full day with patients. That’s not a documentation problem—it’s a life problem. She believed in this mission before there was anything to believe in, and she uses what I build every single day. She’s the real QA department: if it doesn’t hold up for Susan, it doesn’t ship.

Dr. John Werther (D.M.D., M.D., F.A.C.S. of Oral & Facial Surgery Group, P.C.) was another pivotal figure. He was an early adopter who fell in love with how ezScribe improved patient education and clinical flow—and then he put his own money behind it as an investor. He said it “Makes clinic visits FUN again.” This is a really good program. Absolutely a time saver; it improves patient care because I go through the plan once, then I dictate in front of the patient — so they hear it a 2nd time. Then they can ask additional clarifying questions AFTER dictating. Because at the end of the day (or right now before sunrise) — what is most important is the patient understanding the plan and thereby being able to execute it to benefit their health.

So ezScribe really is a triple threat: Vastly decreases Drs. paperwork burden, facilitates patient care and education
Improves communication between providers. Makes clinic visits, really all patient care activities, FUN again because the documentation agony is relieved.”

When somebody of his caliber bets on you before the proof fully exists, you carry that trust into every single build.

I also owe huge credit to early champions like Rebecca, FNP at Family Health Care of Gallatin, Brooke Owens, and Taylor Larsen, whose early feedback helped us refine the platform into something that truly puts eyes back on the patient instead of the screen.

And honestly, the technology stack itself deserves credit. Emergent.sh is in my hands every single day—it’s a huge part of how one founder is able to ship high-quality features at the speed of an entire engineering team.
