Today we’d like to introduce you to Baron Miller.
Baron, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started out in digital strategy and interactive media, working on projects for brands like Disney, DTS, Land Rover, and the CW Network. That was the era of advergames and some of the first interactive online video, and it taught me something I have carried ever since: technology should do the heavy lifting so people can focus on the work only they can do.
In 2010 I opened Buzzbox Media in Nashville as a general marketing shop. Healthcare took over almost immediately. Nashville is one of the biggest healthcare hubs in the country, and the medical device companies and medical associations I met here needed a marketing partner who could handle FDA-aware claims, clinical audiences, and the regulatory side without a learning curve. I leaned into that and never left. Over 15 years later, the agency works exclusively with medtech companies and healthcare associations on SEO, paid search, account-based marketing, and conference marketing.
The relationships are the part I am proudest of. INFAB, a radiation protection manufacturer, has been with me since 2014. AAGL, the association for minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, since 2018. True Digital Surgery, a B. Braun company, for several years now. In 2025 the work for the AAGL Global Congress won four Association TRENDY Awards.
The most recent chapter is the biggest change. Starting in 2023 I rebuilt the whole operation around AI. Strategy, creative direction, and client relationships are still me. The production layer underneath, research, drafts, design iterations, technical SEO, and compliance checks, runs through a production system I built called Apiary. It lets a specialized solo agency in Nashville deliver what used to take a team of twenty.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, and I would be suspicious of anyone who says it was. A few of the hard ones:
Narrowing down was scary. Turning away non-healthcare work when you are a small shop feels like leaving money on the table. It took a couple of years to trust that being the specialist was worth more than being available to everyone.
Regulated marketing has a steep learning curve. In medical devices you cannot just write the punchiest headline. Every claim has to be supportable, and one careless sentence can create a real problem for a client. I learned to build review into the process instead of relying on memory, and that discipline is now the thing clients value most.
Being a solo founder means every hat is yours. For a long time I was the strategist, the designer, the copywriter, the developer, and the bookkeeper, and the business could only grow as fast as my calendar. That is what pushed me to rebuild everything around AI in 2023. It was a full reset of how I work after more than a decade of doing it one way, and it was uncomfortable for months. It is also the best decision I have made in the business.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Buzzbox Media is a medical device and healthcare marketing agency based in Nashville. The agency works exclusively with medtech companies and healthcare associations on SEO and AI search visibility, PPC, account-based marketing to named health systems, and conference marketing. Clients include INFAB, AAGL, and True Digital Surgery, a B. Braun company.
What sets the agency apart is that I already know the market. Most agencies learn your industry on your dime. After over 15 years in medtech I know how surgeons read clinical evidence, how procurement reads total cost of ownership, and what you can and cannot say about an FDA-cleared device. Regulatory review is built into every deliverable, not sold as an add-on.
The other difference is the model. A retainer does not buy a single account manager. It buys a full marketing department, with strategy and creative direction led by me and production run through Apiary, the AI production system I built. That means same-day design iterations and audits in days instead of weeks, without the overhead of a big agency.
What I am proudest of is retention. INFAB has been a client since 2014 and AAGL since 2018. In an industry where agencies churn through clients, that is the proof. The four 2025 Association TRENDY Awards for the AAGL Global Congress were a nice bonus.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Pick a lane earlier than feels comfortable. The fastest way to become the obvious choice is to be the person who does one thing, for one kind of client, for a long time. Generalists compete on price. Specialists get referred.
Build the process before you need it. Checklists, review steps, and written standards feel like overhead when it is just you. They are what let you grow past yourself later, and in a regulated field they are what keep you out of trouble.
Keep clients for years, not projects. A few long relationships are worth more than a full pipeline. Do the unglamorous work well, answer the phone, and be honest when something did not work.
And learn the new tools yourself. I have watched a lot of agency owners hand AI to a junior person and wait for a report. The owners who sit down and learn it are the ones rebuilding their businesses around it.
