Today we’d like to introduce you to Rahkya Dunlap.
Hi Rahkya , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Growing up in New York City, I always had a creative mind and believed that the sky was the limit. I was outgoing, confident, and constantly thinking outside of the box. Fashion was one of my first loves. At just six years old, I remember watching *That’s So Raven* and being inspired by Raven’s passion for fashion design. From that point on, I dreamed of becoming a fashion designer and creating something of my own one day.
Although there is so much to see, experience, and do in New York, deep down I always felt like there was something more for me beyond the city. As big as New York is, somehow I felt so small. I loved where I came from, but I didn’t feel complete there. I knew there was more for me to experience, more room for me to grow, and a bigger purpose for my life that I had yet to discover.
As I got older, however, the confidence I had as a child began to shift. During my teenage years, I started questioning myself and allowing society’s expectations to influence what I thought was possible for my life. Instead of believing I could pursue my creativity and build the life I envisioned, I began thinking I needed to choose a more traditional path. I put my love for fashion to the side and turned my focus toward psychology.
Taking a step outside of my comfort zone and moving from New York to Nashville to attend Tennessee State University became one of the most important decisions of my life. College exposed me to new people, experiences, and possibilities, and Tennessee gave me the opportunity to discover a different version of myself. During that time, I loved creating videos and knew there was something about content creation that excited me. Deep down, I wanted to pursue it, but fear and self-doubt made me question how far I could really go.
After graduating with my bachelor’s degree in psychology, my original plan was to attend Georgia State University, earn my master’s degree, become a psychologist, and eventually open my own practice. But I had to be honest with myself: psychology was not where my true passion was. The passion I kept trying to put to the side had never really left—it was still fashion, creativity, storytelling, and connecting with people.
I began creating content centered around fashion, beauty and skincare, lifestyle, food, travel, fitness, and the everyday experiences that make life special. I especially love creating content that feels authentic and relatable while still being elevated and visually beautiful. In 2025, I made the decision to truly take a chance on myself and pursue content creation more intentionally. That required me to stop allowing fear to dictate what I believed I was capable of and start believing in the gifts God gave me.
Since taking that chance, I have had the opportunity to collaborate with several companies and create content across different industries. Every collaboration, opportunity, connection, and milestone has reminded me of what can happen when you are willing to start—even when you don’t have everything figured out.
My journey also led me into entrepreneurship with my Christian business, Heavenly Modest. The mission behind Heavenly Modest is rooted in encouraging women to recognize that true beauty, confidence, healing, and identity come from God—hence our motto, “Where Beauty Comes From The Father.”
One of the products at the heart of Heavenly Modest is *The Heavenly Path To Healing*, a Christian yearly planner created to help women become more intentional about their faith, goals, self-care, and everyday lives. The planner includes monthly scriptures and calendars, daily self-care reminders and to-do lists, monthly focuses, journaling space, affirmations, appointments, and goal-setting sections. I wanted to create something that wasn’t simply about staying organized, but something women could use throughout the year as they grow spiritually, personally, and intentionally.
Now, being in my second year as a business owner, I have been blessed to see an increase in sales compared to my first year. Seeing that growth means so much to me because it is tangible proof that progress doesn’t always happen overnight. Sometimes it happens one decision, one customer, one opportunity, and one act of faith at a time.
Looking back, moving to Tennessee has truly been one of the best choices I have made for myself. I am genuinely happy here. I have been able to grow into myself, thrive in my purpose, become a wife, pursue the things I love, and simply fall more in love with the life I am building. New York will always be a part of who I am and where my story began, but Tennessee has become the place where so much of who I am today has blossomed.
If you had told the younger version of me—the little girl in New York dreaming about fashion—that this would be part of my story, I don’t know if I would have imagined it this way. I’ve learned that sometimes the path you think you’re supposed to take isn’t the path God ultimately has for you.
Is pursuing your dreams always easy? Absolutely not. There have been moments of doubt, uncertainty, and having to push myself outside of my comfort zone. But when I look back at where I started and where I am today, I can see the progress, and I am incredibly grateful.
It is truly a blessing to be able to go after my dreams, build my business, express myself creatively, enjoy being a wife, and continue discovering everything God has for me. I am still growing, still learning, and still building—and I know this is only the beginning.
I started my story believing the sky was the limit, and after losing sight of that belief for a while, I found my way back to it. Now, I’m going to keep reaching for the stars.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth or easy road. Being both a content creator and an entrepreneur has taught me that one of the biggest parts of pursuing your dreams is simply continuing to put in the effort, even when you don’t immediately see the results.
There are days when I question myself and wonder, “Am I really making progress? Am I actually getting further than I was yesterday?” There have even been moments when I’ve wanted to give up because it can be discouraging to work hard toward something and not immediately see the fruits of your labor. But I’ve had to remind myself that consistency is key. Just because I can’t see the results today doesn’t mean the work I’m putting in isn’t producing something for my future.
Some of my biggest struggles have been staying consistent, remaining disciplined, overcoming overthinking, and learning not to worry so much about what other people may think about what I’m doing. When you’re putting yourself, your creativity, and your business out there for the world to see, it can be easy to compare yourself to others or question whether you’re doing enough. I’ve had to learn that everyone has their own journey, and mine doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s.
Most importantly, I’ve had to continue trusting God’s plan for my life. Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
That scripture reminds me that even when I can’t see the full picture, God can. His plans for my life are bigger, better, and brighter than any negativity, doubt, fear, or temporary setback I may experience.
So no, the road hasn’t always been smooth—but I believe every challenge is helping shape me into the woman, creator, and entrepreneur I’m called to be. My responsibility is to keep showing up, keep believing, keep putting in the work, and trust God with the results.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As a content creator, I specialize in fashion, beauty and skincare, lifestyle, food, travel, fitness, and marriage content. I love taking everyday experiences and turning them into content that is authentic, relatable, visually appealing, and engaging. Whether I’m putting together an outfit, trying a new restaurant, discovering a skincare product, traveling somewhere new, or sharing moments from my everyday life, I want my audience to feel like they’re experiencing it with me.
What I’m most proud of is simply taking the leap of faith to pursue something I truly love. Content creation required me to step outside of my comfort zone, believe in myself, and become bolder and more confident—even during seasons when I wasn’t seeing the results I hoped for. I’m proud that I continue to show up, create, learn, and push myself creatively instead of allowing numbers or comparison to determine my potential.
What sets me apart is my personality and my ability to connect with people naturally. I’m outgoing, expressive, and genuinely excited about the things I share, and I think that translates through my content. I don’t want people to feel like I’m simply trying to sell them something. I want them to feel like they’re getting a recommendation, experience, or piece of inspiration from someone they can relate to and trust.
I also believe my versatility sets me apart. I don’t limit my creativity to one category. Fashion has always been at the heart of who I am, but I’m also able to incorporate beauty, food, travel, fitness, marriage, and lifestyle into my platform in a way that still feels cohesive and true to me. My content reflects who I actually am and the life I’m building.
Another thing that sets me apart is my willingness to be myself. Social media can make it easy to compare yourself to others or feel like you have to follow every trend to be successful, but I’m learning that my greatest strength is being Rahkya. My personality, perspective, creativity, confidence, values, and the way I tell a story are things no one else can duplicate.
Ultimately, I want people to come across my content and feel inspired to try something new, express themselves through fashion, discover a new place or product, or simply have the confidence to be themselves. I’m still growing as a creator, but I’m proud that I’m building something that feels authentic to who I am—and that’s something I never want to lose.
Any big plans?
I have so many plans for the future, and I truly feel like I’m just getting started. One of my biggest goals is to continue expanding creatively, both as a content creator and an entrepreneur. I don’t want to place limits on what I can accomplish or where my creativity can take me.
For Heavenly Modest, I plan to expand beyond the yearly planner and introduce so much more. I want to continue creating meaningful products that align with the heart and mission of the brand while encouraging women in their faith, confidence, healing, and everyday lives. I also plan to continue doing TikTok Lives on @heavenlymodest, where I can connect directly with my community, share more about the brand and its products, encourage other women, and continue building a space centered around faith, purpose, and genuine connection. I have a much bigger vision for Heavenly Modest, and I’m excited to see that vision continue to unfold.
As a content creator, I want to continue elevating my content, strengthening my storytelling, and working with brands that genuinely align with who I am. Some of my dream collaborations include Lexus, Marriott, Cinq à Sept, Qatar Airways, and many more across fashion, beauty, travel, lifestyle, hospitality, and automotive. I would especially love opportunities that allow me to combine my passion for fashion, travel, and lifestyle storytelling while experiencing new places around the world. These are goals I’m actively working toward, and I look forward to the day when opportunities I once dreamed and prayed about become part of my reality.
Most importantly, I plan to go even harder toward my goals and dreams. I want to challenge myself creatively, take bigger leaps of faith, step into new rooms, travel more, experience more, and continue becoming more confident in what I bring to the table.
I’m looking forward to growth—not only in numbers or opportunities, but also in who I become throughout the process. I want to look back years from now and know that I didn’t allow fear, doubt, or other people’s expectations to place limits on my life.
There is so much more I want to accomplish, and I’m excited for what’s ahead. I’m dreaming bigger, creating bigger, and trusting God with every step. The sky is the limit, and I plan to keep reaching for the stars.
