Exploring Life & Business with Andrew Goodwyn of Hendley & Goodwyn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Goodwyn.

Hi Andrew, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Hendley & Goodwyn, LLP is a two-attorney firm run by myself, Andrew Goodwyn, and Holland Hendley. Holland and I met in our first year of law school at Texas A&M University School of Law. We both tossed around the idea of starting a firm throughout law school and got serious about it in our final year. We both have creative backgrounds which is why we wanted to start a law firm for creatives.

Holland grew up playing music and still enjoys writing songs in his spare time. He had a few connections in Nashville from his time studying Music Business at Belmont which helped us narrow our decision of where to hang our shingle. He also worked for SESAC and several of the studios around town before attending law school.

I studied Fashion Merchandising at the University of North Texas before going to law school. I like to joke that I took the same trajectory as Elle Woods from Legally Blonde. After college, I did product photography at the World Trade Center in Dallas and worked at a couple of modeling agencies around town.

We both really love Nashville and the diverse community of creatives here. We also both know how confusing the entertainment and creative world can be, and we wanted to help artists of all kinds turn their passion into a career.

The pandemic certainly brought its challenges for us as it did for all of us. It made for a scary time to be establishing a business. However, we pushed through and feel fortunate to have the awesome clients that we have that keep us determined to succeed. We look forward to growing alongside the creative community here in Nashville.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I don’t think the road has been smooth for anyone in the past year and a half. The pandemic certainly forced us to pivot and focus on different strategies. A lot of our clients depend on the live entertainment space, filming, and other in-person events. There was a lot of uncertainty for everyone but we feel fortunate to have been able to continue to grow and learn throughout everything.

We’ve been impressed with Hendley & Goodwyn, LLP, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Hendley & Goodwyn, LLP is a law firm focusing on Entertainment & Esports, Business, Intellectual Property, and Civil Litigation. We enjoy helping guide our clients towards success within the entertainment industry and look forward to attending more events where we can celebrate their talents.

Esports tend to be the area of practice that grabs people’s attention about our firm. For those that don’t know, esports is a term used to describe the competitive video game industry which is a 1 billion dollar industry. It mostly flew under the radar until 2016 when it seemingly exploded out of nowhere. I have been an avid fan of esports for many years and love working within the industry. It’s somewhat small right now but continues to grow year over year and I am convinced it is here to stay.

We pride ourselves on our responsiveness, transparency, and kindness. A lot of people are intimidated by attorneys so we do our best to help everyone who contacts us feel welcome. We enjoy meeting the array of creatives in Nashville and supporting their community.

We always offer free consultations, so always feel free to reach out.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I grew up in the skateboard community which I attribute for a lot of my personality. It exposed me to a diverse group of friends and taught me to accept everyone as they were. It also taught me persistence and the satisfaction of hard work. I actually do a segment on TikTok called Legal Tips & Skateboard Tricks for the law firm.

Skate videos really got me interested in music and music discovery which remains my biggest hobby. I love finding a new artist and going through their catalog.

I have always enjoyed meeting new people and learning about their lives and experiences. I’m definitely a people person.
